Hyde Park Baptist basketball player Grace Bagan, who scored 40 points in a recent win over the Austin Royals, was voted the Covert Chevrolet Bastrop Austin-area Girls Athlete of the Week for Jan. 1-6.

Bagan was 10-of-13 from the field, including five of her six 3-point attempts and added eight steals, two assists and two blocked shots. She received 46% of the vote. Georgetown's Reese Hoadley won the poll for Dec. 25-30.

Navarro's Paulete Mbuangi, Liberty Hill's Gabby Mundy, Vandegrift's Saania Khawaja and St. Michael's soccer player Lauren Hill also were candidates.

The American-Statesman will have a weekly vote for Girls Athlete of the Week and Boys Athlete of the Week throughout the academic year.
