Hunter Greene falls behind, falls short in a rainy loss to the Brewers

In the top of the fourth inning on Wednesday, Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene had a chance to put Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Blake Perkins away in a two-strike count. Greene threw a slider and went for the strikeout.

The pitch bounced, hit Perkins on the leg and gave him a free pass. It was that type of game on a rainy night at Great American Ball Park as the Brewers beat the Reds, 7-2.

Greene allowed seven runs in six innings, and his command was spotty all game. He walked the first batter on four pitches that didn’t land close to the strike zone, and then he hung a slider right down the middle on a pitch that Brewers designated hitter Christian Yelich crushed for a two-run home run.

Hunter Greene struggled against the Brewers Wednesday night, pitchinig six innings, allowing six hits, including two home runs, seven runs, six of which were earned, while hitting two batters and walking one.

Greene struck out nine batters, walked one, hit two batters and allowed two homers. He was coming off two impressive starts to start the season, and his most recent appearance was one of the most aggressive and efficient games he has had in the big leagues. That momentum didn’t carry over into Wednesday.
