Hubert Davis comments on the return of UNC guard Caleb Love

The UNC basketball program received news on Sunday that it would be returning a fourth starter from the 2021-22 season that ended in a National Championship runner-up appearance.

That starter was Caleb Love, the final piece to the puzzle this offseason for the Tar Heels. North Carolina had already received news that Leaky Black, Armando Bacot and RJ Davis would all be returning to Chapel Hill, and Love ended the rumors about his future as well.

On Monday, head coach Hubert Davis commented on what Love means to this program and his excitement to have him back for another season.

Caleb’s passion for this team and program are what motivates and drives him to win a National Championship and eventually have a long, successful career in the NBA. Nobody is better at taking and making big shots in pressure situations. He’s one of the most gifted players I’ve ever been around and I’m excited to coach him another season.

The St. Louis native averaged 15.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game in his second year at UNC. He also shot 36 percent from three on the season.

Love’s return makes North Carolina one of the top teams, if not the preseason favorite, to cut down the nets next season.
