NFL

• Former IU wide receiver Shane Wynn finished with one reception for 17 yards for the Jacksonville Jaguars in their 31-24 preseason win over the New England Patriots on Aug. 10.

• Former IU running back Jordan Howard finished with three carries for four yards for the Chicago Bears in their 24-17 preseason loss to the Denver Broncos on Aug. 10.

MLB

• Former IU catcher Kyle Schwarber hit .188 with one home run and one RBI for the Chicago Cubs in back-to-back losses to the San Francisco Giants, a 2-1 series win over the Arizona Diamondbacks and a 15-5 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

• Former IU catcher Josh Phegley could return to the Oakland Athletics in September after being placed on the 10-day disabled list on Aug. 7 following a left oblique injury. The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports Phegley is expected to begin his rehabilitation assignment today.

Minor League Baseball

• Former IU first baseman Kevin Mahar, now the bench coach for the Dayton Dragons, the Class A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, and the Dragons sit at 56-64 overall and seventh place in the Midwest League Eastern Division Standings. Mahar was an All-Big Ten honoree his senior year as an outfielder, played for the Texas Rangers and the Phillies and made it to the majors in 2007.

• Former IU pitcher Aaron Slegers struck out six, allowing just two earned runs off eight hits in 7 1/3 innings of a start for the Rochester Red Wings - the Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins - in a 3-2 win over the Norfolk Tides on Aug. 12. Slegers moved to 13-4 on the season with the result.

• Former IU third baseman Sam Travis hit .250 for the Pawtucket Red Sox - the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox - in back-to-back wins over the Charlotte Knights, a win over the Columbus Clippers and a loss to the Clippers.

• Former IU infielder Micah Johnson was optioned from the Atlanta Braves to Triple-A Gwinnett on Aug. 1. He hit .200 with one walk for Gwinnett in back-to-back losses to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and a 4-0 series sweep win over the Louisville Bats.

• Former IU pitcher Ryan Halstead tossed two strikeouts, allowing one two earned runs off three hits in 2 2/3 combined innings of relief work for the Richmond Flying Squirrels - the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants - in a pair of losses to the Portland Sea Dogs on Aug. 8 and 10 and a 5-4 win over the Reading Fightin Phils on Aug. 11.

• Former IU third baseman Dustin DeMuth hit .375 with one home run and two RBI for the Bixoli Shuckers - the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers - in a 3-2 series win over the Tennessee Smokies.

• Former IU pitcher Scott Effross tossed six strikeouts, allowing just one hit in five combined innings of relief work for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans - the Advanced-Class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs - in a 7-2 loss to the Potomac Nationals on Aug. 8, a 4-1 loss to the Carolina Mudcats on Aug. 11 and a 4-2 win over the Mudcats on Aug. 13.

• Former IU pitcher Kyle Hart tossed 11 strikeouts, allowing one earned run off nine hits in three innings of a start for the Salem Red Sox - the Advanced-Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox - in a 4-1 loss to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Aug. 4.

• Former IU pitcher Caleb Baragar struck out four with just one run allowed off four hits across 12 innings of two starts for the Augusta Green Jackets - the Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants - in a 2-1 win over the Buies Creek Astros on Aug. 8 and a 5-2 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Aug. 13.

• Former IU pitcher Jake Kelzer threw two strikeouts with just one hit allowed in one inning of relief for the Lakewood Blueclaws - the Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies - in a 2-0 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Aug. 12.

• Former IU pitcher Christian Morris struck out four, allowing two earned runs off four hits in 3 1/3 innings of relief work for the Charleston RiverDogs - the Class A Short Season affiliate of the New York Yankees - in a 7-3 win over the Lexington Legends on Aug. 12.

• Former IU outfielder Craig Dedelow hit .292 with six RBI for the Great Falls Voyagers - the Class A Short Season affiliate of the Chicago White Sox - in a win over and pair of losses to the Ogden Raptors and 1-2 series loss to the Idaho Falls Chukars.
