This week's Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week is back with another game-winner!

Rocky Mountain boys basketball player Avantae Hood took top honors in the Fort Collins area for Feb. 4-10 after hitting a fadeaway jumper with five seconds left to beat crosstown rival Fossil Ridge last Friday.

Hood scored the Lobos' final five points, including the game-winning shot plus a three-point play moments earlier in the 47-45 win.

The junior guard combined with running mate Peyton Matkin for 28 points and five 3-pointers in the defensive slugfest.

He backed it up with another 18 points in Rocky Mountain's 85-69 win over Mountain Range this week. Another city rivalry game awaits Thursday night at Fort Collins.

Hood is the fourth boys basketball player to win the honor this season, joining Windsor's John Backhaus, Fort Collins' Jayce King and Fossil Ridge's Cayden Clagett.

Hood won the Blue Federal Credit Union fan poll with a majority vote, as he got 55.5% of the 10,577 votes cast.

That beat out other fantastic performances from his fellow nominees:

  • Josie Stahl, Liberty Common girls swimming (runner-up with 35.8%)

  • Ella Gaca-Thiele, Fossil Ridge girls swimming

  • Billy Greenwood, Poudre boys wrestling

  • Natasha Hartman and Pearl Morris, PSD girls wrestling

  • Cody Monajjem, Wellington girls swimming

The Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week series features five nominees every Monday, with voting at Coloradoan.com until 11 p.m. Wednesday and the winner named on Thursday.
