In Honor of Pop-Tarts Bowl – Which Pop-Tarts are the Best?

Back in June it was announced that the bowl game formerly known as the Cheez-It Bowl was changing its title sponsor to Pop-Tarts.  It is a game that Notre Dame played in previously when it was the Champs Sports Bowl and then again when it was the Camping World Bowl.

Notre Dame doesn’t play in it this year, instead that battle is between Kansas State and North Carolina State and takes place tonight.

When the news came down that the sponsor changed this past summer however, I sent a message to the team here at Fighting Irish Wire asking their pick for best flavor Pop-Tarts.  Here is what we came up with:

There are a few choices I could have gone with, but I gotta go with Chocolate Fudge with Cookies and Creme and Wild Berry as close runners-up. I only have Pop-Tarts every so often these days, but when I do, Chocolate Fudge is the first Pop-Tart I typically buy if I haven’t had them in a while. I confess to being a full-fledged chocoholic to the point where both Willy Wonka and Charlie Bucket would be jealous. Even with all of that sugar going into me, the idea of starting my day with a pure chocolate rush will never get old, and it will stay that way for the rest of my life, or at least until I become afflicted with diabetes.

This is one so easy, and a classic as well. I has to be Strawberry Frosted. Lightly warmed up, with a cold glass of milk. Can’t go wrong with this choice.

I will get toasted for this, no pun intended. But the best flavor of pop-tart is clearly Strawberry Unfrosted. There is no need for cheap frosting or filling when the original still withstands time. Keep in mind, this food was meant to be a breakfast item, not a triple fudge dessert. Sometimes simple is best, this is one of those times.

S’mores. and it’s not close.  Biting into one of these bad boys that is fresh out of the toaster is like getting a 30-second trip to a fireside seat on vacation.  Not overly chocolately but still hammer home the sweet.  This is the Pop-Tarts champion by Secretariat levels.
