Hoggard's Wilharm, Laney's Crudup lead Wilmington-area Week 5 football top performers

Conference play began for Wilmington-area high school football teams Friday night, and these players put on performances to remember.

Here are the top performers for Week 5 of the 2023 Wilmington area high school football season.

Hudson Wilharm, Sr., Hoggard: The Vikings QB was nearly perfect against North Brunswick, completing 13 of 14 passes for 227 yards and five touchdowns in just two quarters of play.

Skyler Merrill, Sr., Hoggard: The wideout caught four passes and racked up 94 receiving yards and a touchdown in the win.

Blake Edwards, Jr., Hoggard: Edwards' two receptions came on scoring plays, as he accounted for nearly a quarter of the Vikings points in Week 5.

Mason Shand, Sr., New Hanover: The Wildcats back rushed for three touchdowns as New Hanover cruised past South Brunswick 52-20.

Caden Morton, Sr., New Hanover: Morton rushed for over 150 yards and three scores in the win.

Jameson Prince, Sr., South Brunswick: The Cougars quarterback scored three total touchdowns in the loss.

Tyjhere Crudup, Sr., Laney: Crudup carried the ball 14 times for 107 yards and three touchdowns as Laney defeated Ashley, 40-13.

Ryder Wilcox, Jr., Topsail: The junior caught one touchdown pass on offense and recorded a pick-six on defense as the Pirates cruised past West Brunswick, 50-14.

John Wolfenbarger, Sr., Topsail: The senior had two rushing touchdowns in the win.
