HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: A look at Lenawee County sports from Sept. 18-23

It was a busy week of high school sports across Lenawee County volleyball, boys soccer, cross country, girls swimming and diving and boys tennis.

Here is how the games fell out:

VOLLEYBALL

On Saturday, Addison competed in the Morenci Tournament and came out as the runners-up to Reading.

The Panthers beat Onsted (25-21, 25-20) and Concord (25-23, 25-22) in pool play while splitting with Morenci (20-25, 25-22). They went on to beat Britton Deerfield (25-12, 25-18) in the quarterfinals and Morenci (25-18, 23-25, 15-12) in the semis before the Rangers won the final (28-26, 22-25, 15-12).

Molly Brown had 67 kills and 49 digs while Laci Patterson had 50 kills and 14 blocks and Izzy Durkee 39 kills and digs.

Addison continued to roll in Cascades Conference earlier in the week by sweeping East Jackson on the road, 25-20, 25-12, 25-16.

Brown had 18 kills while Laci Patterson had six with five aces and Lexi Patterson had 20 assists.

Lenawee Christian picked up a TCC win at Summerfield Thursday, 25-13, 25-12, 25-9 and then swept a doubleheader Saturday against Whiteford, 25-14, 25-10, 25-7 and 25-9, 25-20, 25-9.

Sand Creek took on Whiteford Thursday in TCC play and fell in three sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-21.

Carley Allen had eight digs, eight assists, three aces and two kills while Saydie Boring had five kills, six digs and a block. Lainey Johnston had seven blocks and Hailey Bennett had 12 digs.

The Aggies fell to Erie Mason in TCC play on Tuesday, 25-10, 25-20, 25-13. The Aggies (3-6-2, 2-3 TCC) were led by Zoe Rorick with seven kills and three blocks while Scout Robinson had eight digs and Allen had eight assists and two aces.

Adrian and Tecumseh met for the first time this season in Adrian to open SEC White play where Tecumseh came up with the three set victory, 25-16, 26-24, 25-23.

Tecumseh was guided by senior setter Lily Hammond, who recorded her 2,000th career assist as he dished out 29 on the night. Emma Eldred was on the receiving end with 18 kills to go with eight digs while Alli Zajac added six kills and Ashlee Frazzini had eight digs as well.

Tecumseh is 16-7-2.

The Maples battled throughout the night, forcing two tight sets in the second and third, but Tecumseh came out on top each time. Adrian was led by Lauren Fraser's 12 kills while Ella Salenbien had 10 and Halei Lefever added eight with eight digs.

Ashley Condon had 24 assists. Adrian is 10-7-3.

Tatum Wilson guided Madison it a five-set LCAA win at Dundee, 27-25, 27-29, 20-25, 25-22, 15-12. Wilson had 17 kills and six blocks, many coming in the fifth set, Jillian Kendrick had 48 assists and Roni Flores had 41 digs while Caylan Sower added 20.

The Trojans are 22-2-1 on the season and 7-0 in the LCAA.

Elsewhere in the LCAA, Clinton defeated Blissfield at home, 25-23, 25-17, 25-19.

Nalani Schanz had 17 assists, 12 digs and six kills to lead the Redwolves while Kaylee Kranz had 12 kills, 11 digs and two blocks. Robin Mull had 12 digs.

Clinton recorded 10 kills on the night.

Onsted defeated Hudson at home in an LCAA dual, 25-20, 25-5, 25-15. Naika Rath had four kills and four blocks for the Tigers while Jozlyn Weber had 14 digs.

CROSS COUNTRY

Adrian had a strong showing at the Jackson Invite as the boys won the 500-1,000 enrollment division and the girls took fourth overall despite taking the top two spots.

The Maples boys posted a score of 27 led by Braylon Petty in first place (15:50.57) while Moises Salazar took third (16:16.22), Matthew Canales took sixth (17:00.56), Carter Fenner took seventh (17:07.33) and Chase Nyack took 10th (17:31.84).

On the girls side, Adrian had 72 points with Father Gabriel Richard winning with 50 points. Sophy Skeels (19:01.6) and Ayda Skeels (19:23.1) were first and second overall while Anastee Davis was fourth (19:35.7).

In the 500-under division, Clinton girls took fourth with 115 points while Onsted was sixth with 153 points and Jackson Lumen Christi won with 45. Onsted's Emmry Ross took third (18:10.25) while Clinton's Cylee Elkins took sixth (20:01.66).

Clinton boys took sixth with 194 points while Onsted was ninth with 242 points while Hillsdale Academy won with 82. Onsted's Mitchell Hiatt was second (16:10.72).

Addison, Britton Deerfield, Madison and Morenci competed in the Pittsford Invite on Saturday where the meet was separated by freshmen/sophomore and junior/senior races.

Morenci's Landon Wilkins won the boys underclassmen race with a time of 18:14.31 while Madison's Paul McClure took second (18:17.53) and Trenton Fetter took fourth (19:02.17). Morenci's Emersyn Bachelder took second in the underclassmen girls race with a time of 22:55.81.

In the upperclassmen races, Morenci's Zachary Martinez (18:16.65) and Beau Shaffer (18:31.0) took third and fourth while Britton Deerfield's Jameson Watson took fifth (18:54.30). On the girls side, Addison's Stephanie Hernandez was fourth (21:48.61).

Blissfield traveled to the Liberty Center Extravaganza on Saturday where the girls took eighth while the boys were 15th,

Hope Miller took eighth overall to lead the Royals with a time of 19:57.93 while Hailey Sills was 11th (20:24.81) and Ian Waddell led the boys team in 12th (17:17.50).

Blissfield hosted the Blissfield Early Bird Invite at Gerber Park on Tuesday where the Tecumseh girls won the top prize.

Tecumseh had 45 points followed by Onsted (65) and Blissfield (85) while Lenawee Christian took seventh (163) and Sand Creek was ninth (197).

Onsted's Ross cruised to another win at 18:33.69 while LCS' Izzy Brooks was second (19:42.95) and Tecumseh's Madison Morris was third (20:30.58). Blissfield's Miller (20:44.15) and Sills (21:07.65) took fourth and fifth.

Claire Cousineau of Tecumseh took sixth (22:05.99) while Aubrey Appleman of Britton Deerfield took eighth (22:25.03) and Onsted's Allie England was 10th (22:31.82).

Onsted's Hiatt won a tight boys race with a time of 16:54.55 while Whiteford's Keegan Masters was second at 16:54.60. Onsted took second overall with a score of 87 while Erie Mason won with 76, Madison was third (99), Tecumseh was fourth (101), Sand Creek was fifth (104), Blissfield was seventh (145) and Britton Deerfield was ninth (201).

Blissfield's Waddell took fourth (17:49.79) while LCS' Joel Lange was fifth (17:50.72), Tecumseh's Grant Fahle was eighth (18:20.33) and Madison's Fetter was ninth (18:28.13).

Addison traveled to Hanover Horton for Cascades Conference tri where the girls took second and the boys placed third.

The Panthers' girls were led by Stephanie Hernandez in fourth (21:12.8) while Kendalyn Perry was ninth (23:52.9). Addison had 46 points while Hanover Horton won with 17.

The boys had 82 points behind Hanover Horton (15) and Columbia Central (51).

BOYS SOCCER

Clinton had a non-conference game at Central Academy and won 4-2 before getting back to LCAA play on Wednesday, beating Hillsdale at home, 4-1.

The Redwolves (9-5-2, 3-1 LCAA) got goals Angel Rubio, Max Hampel, Samson Schaffner and Jacob Rothman while Hampel, Jalen Stelzer and Mattis Riddle had assists.

Rubio scored on Monday as well, as did Schaffner, Riddle and Parker Baughey while Eli Turner, Hampel and Broden Manchester had the assists.

Adrian hosted Chelsea in an SEC White matchup Monday where the Maples fell, 3-1, but rebounded Wednesday with an SEC White win at Pinckney, 4-1.

Adrian (11-6, 4-3 SEC White) was tied with Pirates, 1-1, at the half on a Brady Hanosh goal. In the second half, Nathan Wojcik got the scoring started on an assist from Carter Allen before Joey Spagnoli scored from Hanosh and Sawyer Cranmore scored the final goal off an assist from Nick Flores.

Gary Kemerer made four saves in the win.

Monday the Maples were down 1-0 at the half and fell behind 2-0 before Spagnoli found the back of the net of an assist from Allen. Kemerer made six saves in net.

Tecumseh hosted a good Ypsilanti team Monday and was down 1-0 at half, but the Grizzlies outlasted Tecumseh, netting five goals in the second half for a 6-0 decision. Tecumseh then lost at Jackson on Wednesday, 4-0.

Tecumseh is 4-11 (1-6 SEC White).

Blissfield visited Onsted in an LCAA matchup Monday with the Royals winning, 5-2. Blissfield and Onsted had non-conference losses Thursday with the Royals falling to Manchester, 8-0, while the Wildcats lost on the road in Quincy, 5-4.

Blake Wood and Sean Samuels each scored twice while Ian Waddell score as well. Wood had two assists as did Ethan Johnson.

Blissfield is 2-10-2 (1-2-1 LCAA) on the season after losing 5-1 at home against Ida while the Wildcats are 0-12-1 (0-4 LCAA).

On Tuesday, Lenawee Christian took on Bronson on the road and won, 6-1.

Jack Stamats had two goals and an assist while Max Stamats had two assists and a goal. Eli Brainard had a goal and an assist while Nate Jeffords and Gabe Miller each added goals.

LCS is 4-4-1 on the season.

GIRLS GOLF

Adrian shot a 209 on Thursday to beat Jackson's 273, but not enough to beat Dexter's 174 at the Dreadnaughts home course.

Cassidy Hawken shot a 48 while Goldie Sneed shot a 52, Ryan Kominek shot a 53 and Megan Schutte shot a 56.

Clinton continued its path toward an LCAA title as the Redwolves won another league jamboree Wednesday, this one at Wolf Creek, with a score of 204.

Tecumseh took on Ann Arbor Skyline and lost, 200-257 at the Polo Fields Country Club in Ann Arbor.

Lucy Whelan shot a 54 while Brooke Kosco shot a 54, Bella Juozapaitis shot a 68 and Alexa Jensen shot a 73.

Tecumseh won the Onsted Invite at Devil's Lake Golf Course Monday with a score of 409, besting Concord (439), Coldwater (444), Summerfield (486) and Onsted (494).

Tecumseh's Whelan (95) and Kosco (96) took second and third overall while Coldwater's Hailey Price shot a 93. Chloe Griewahn shot a 104 to take fifth and Olivia Swirple shot a 114 to take 10th overall.

Kyleigh Ramos was the medalist yet again, this time carding a 40 while Kaylie Livingston shot a 50, Breanna Broman shot a 56 and Kierra Fivenson shot a 57.

Onsted took second at 242 while Hudson shot 247 and Hillsdale shot 263.

Onsted's Lillian Helinski shot a 113 to take ninth overall and lead the Wildcats.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Tecumseh hosted Ypsilanti and Milan in a tri-meet where it beat Ypsilanti, 89-36, but fell to Milan, 117-27.

Kailley Davis, Kellie Fahey, Madison Proskie and Madison Moore won the 200-yard freestyle relay at 2:14.77.

Adrian visited Chelsea where the Maples fell to the Bulldogs on Thursday, 103-83.

The Maples won nine of the 12 events, but didn't quite have the team depth to win the SEC White dual.

Emma Pino, Ella Salenbien and Eleanore Andre all won two individual events. Pino won the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.13) and 100 butterfly (1:05.46), Salenbien won the 50 freestyle (25.26) and 100 freestyle (55.38) and Andre won the 200 IM (2:22.90) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.96).

Madison Betz and Allison Marks joined Andre and Salenbien to win the 200 medley relay (1:59.77) while Alexis Fox joined Pino, Marks and Salenbien to win the 400 freestyle relay (4:04.03). Fox also won the 500 freestyle (6:04.63).

BOYS TENNIS

Adrian hosted Monroe on Thursday, but fell 5-3.

The Maples controlled doubles play, winning three of the four matches, one being by forfeit, but the Trojans swept singles play.
