High school soccer roundup: Rio Mesa girls, Newbury Park boys grab CIF-SS playoff berths
Jazmyn Camarena, Viviana Marmolejo and Sophia Ramirez scored goals as the Rio Mesa High girls soccer team clinched a CIF-Southern Section postseason berth with a 3-1 win over Ventura on Thursday night at San Marcos High.
With the come-from-behind win, the Spartans (10-6-6, 6-5-4) emerged from the Channel League’s three-team play-in tournament to earn the league’s final automatic playoff berth.
Rio Mesa, Ventura (9-13-2, 7-8-1) and San Marcos (7-9-2, 6-7-1) finished the season tied in fourth place on 19 points.
Having lost a coin flip, Ventura faced a doubleheader to compete for the berth. The Cougars edged San Marcos 1-0 on Kaitlyn Wright’s 26th goal of the season to advance to the play-in final. Izzi Gragg gave Ventura a third-minute lead against Rio Mesa, before the Spartans’ comeback.

The CIF-SS soccer playoff pairings will be announced Saturday morning.
Newbury Park boys grab playoff berth
Dragan Vrataric scored twice as the Newbury Park boys soccer team topped league champion Thousand Oaks, 2-0, to earn the Marmonte League’s third and final automatic playoff berth.
The Panthers (10-9-2, 5-3-2) edged Calabasas (8-2-5, 4-2-4), which tied Agoura 1-1, for third place.
Kenner Aguilar equalized for the Chargers (10-9-2, 5-2-3) in the second half to help clinch second place and an automatic playoff berth.
Jonathan Flores and Troy Mishkanian scored goals as Westlake beat rival Oaks Christian, 2-1.
Oaks Christian girls cap title campaign
Avery Oder set up Jonnie-Jane Quiroz for the decisive goal as the Oaks Christian girls soccer team edged rival Westlake 2-1 to complete its Marmonte League title-winning campaign.

The Lions (13-3-3, 8-1-1), ranked No. 10 in Division 1, will find out Saturday whether they will compete in the first CIF-Southern Section Open Division playoff or Division 1.
KK Chowena scored the goal for Westlake (11-2-4, 5-2-3), which finished in a second-place tie with Thousand Oaks (10-2-4, 5-2-3).
Samantha Forde scored on a free kick and Ivy Williams converted a penalty kick as the Lancers edged rival Newbury Park, 2-1, to forge the tie in the standings.
Lilly Kingston’s goal lifted host Calabasas (9-9-4, 1-8-1) to a 1-0 win over Agoura (4-11-1, 3-6-1).
Foothill Tech, La Reina girls clinch titles
The Foothill Tech and La Reina girls soccer teams clinched league championships without taking the field Thursday.
Foothill Tech (10-3-1, 8-1-1) got the three points it needed to clinch the Tri-Valley League championship outright due to a forfeit by Santa Clara.
La Reina (11-4-1, 9-1) shared the Frontier League title with Grace Brethren (9-5-1, 9-1) following a forfeit win against Laguna Blanca.
