High school soccer roundup: Creek boys open title defense with win over Union County; Lady Colts collect 10-0 victory

Feb. 6—Boys Coahulla Creek 3, Union County 2

Coahulla Creek (1-0) started its season, and its Class 3A state title defense, with a 3-2 win over Union County (0-1) on Tuesday.

Kye Farner scored the first goal of the season just two minutes into the game. Two freshmen connected when Uxmal Macias scored a goal assisted by Johan Reyes. Miguel Arredondo scored the third goal.

Creek hosts Pickens Thursday at 7 p.m.

North Murray 10, Haralson County 0

North Murray (1-0) started off 2024 strong with a 10-0 victory at Haralson County (0-1) Tuesday.

Juan Martinez piled up four goals and had two assists. Landon Figueroa had two goals and two assists. Ray De Leon had two goals, and Aven Cameron and Sergio Miranda each had a goal and an assist.

North Murray is at Rockmart Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Calhoun 2, Southeast Whitfield 1

Southeast Whitfield (0-1) dropped its season opener 2-1 at Calhoun (0-1) on Tuesday.

The Raiders aim to bounce back with a home game against Meadowcreek Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Sonoraville 2, Murray County 1

Murray County (0-1) fell 2-1 at Sonoraville (1-0) in the 2024 season opener for the Indians.

The Indians get a chance to bounce back Thursday at home against Gilmer in a 7 p.m. game.

Ringgold 2, Christian Heritage 1

Christian Heritage (0-1) began the season with a 2-1 loss to Ringgold (1-0) at home on Tuesday.

Carson Russell scored the goal for the Lions.

The Lions drop their season opener after losing just once on the way to the Class A DII state championship last season.

Christian Heritage plays Temple Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls Coahulla Creek 10, Union County 0

Coahulla Creek (1-0) opened its 2024 campaign with a dominant win, piling up 10 goals to end a game with Union County midway through the second half in a 10-0 win.

Lilli Johnson picked up a hat trick with three goals and had an assist. Natalie Brito, Nathalie Cuenca and Jannie Estrada all had two goals, while Natalie Martinez and Megan Ramsey each had one.

Creek hosts Pickens Thursday at 5 p.m.

Southeast Whitfield 5, Calhoun 2

Southeast Whitfield (1-0) began the season with a 5-2 win over Calhoun (0-2) on Tuesday.

Noely Hurtado scored two goals for the Lady Raiders, while Allison Maldonado, Tania Dominguez and Mayah Camacho each had one goal.

Southeast plays Meadowcreek at home on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Murray County 3, Sonoraville 2

Murray County (1-0) opened the year with a 3-2 victory over Sonoraville (0-1) Tuesday.

Murray hosts Gilmer Thursday at 5 p.m.

North Murray 4, Haralson County 2

North Murray (1-0) started the season with a 4-2 overtime victory over Haralson County (0-1) on the road Tuesday.

After both teams scored a goal in each half to leave the game tied at 2 at the end of regulation, North Murray put in two goals in extra time to win.

The Lady Mountaineers travel to Rockmart Friday at 5:30 p.m.
