HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Whitman-Hanson baseball keeps up winning ways

The good times are rolling for the Whitman-Hanson High baseball team.

On Friday, the Panthers were ranked No. 3 in the Division 2 Power Rankings. On Monday, the Panthers defeated North Quincy, 12-1, to improve to 7-2 on the season.

Braden Kain, Zack Casey, and Matt Phelps all had multi-hit days while Zack Casey had a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning to break the game open.

Evan Yakavonis pitching five innings, allowing one run, three hits and striking out six to earn the win.

For North Quincy, Vinny O’Leary doubled and scored on a Tim Toland single.

BASEBALL

Milton 5, Walpole 1: Scott Longo improve to 5-0 on the mound with the win for the Wildcats (12-0) while Andrew Hunt had two shutout innings of relief. Jack Finnegan went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Xaverian 9, BC High 5: The Eagles (5-5) dropped a Catholic Conference game at home.

Braintree 16, Framingham 0: Jack Fitzgerald and Cam Grieve each homered, and Jack Titley pitched a 5-inning shutout for the visiting Wamps (5-6).

Barnstable 11, Bridgewater-Raynham 3: Owen King (two doubles, RBI) and Cam Morrison (double, RBI) chipped in offensively in the loss.

Dartmouth 8, Brockton 1: The Boxers drop to 6-5.

East Bridgewater 10, Carver 0: Luke Parry was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Cohasset 6, West Bridgewater 3: Luc Lefevre pitched six strong innings to earn the win on the mound while Carter Wimberly had a single, double and triple.

Hanover 9, Hingham 6: Cole Hendrickson went 3-for-3 and earned the save on the mound for the Hawks. Owen Kennedy pitched well (five innings, one hit, one run, one walk, four strikeouts) to earn the win. Jack Douglas, John McDonald and Gabriel Knudsen had multi-hit days in the win.

South Shore Tech 18, Hull 1: Tommy Jenkins earned the win on the mound and also had four hits, including a double and a triple for the visiting Vikings (9-1). Riley Siereveld and Jake McAleer (two triples) each had three hits for SST, which pounded out 20 hits overall.

Plymouth North 11, Pembroke 3: The Blue Eagles won the Patriot League game.

Plymouth South 5, Silver Lake 4: Sophomore Colin Ducie earned the win in relief for the visiting Panthers (5-3, 5-2 Patriot League), allowing no runs and striking out six in 3.2 innings. Sophomore Jayson Ruehs led off with a double in the top of the seventh, and sophomore Brad Leonard scored him on a sacrifice fly to break a 4-4 tie. In the loss, Anthony Miele (1-for-3, triple, two RBIs), Jack Quigley (3-for-4, run, RBI) starred at the plate for the Lakers, and Colin Monteior allowed one earned run over three relief innings.

Milford 11, Stoughton 1: The Black Knights dropped the Hockomock League game.

Weymouth 18, Needham 1: Andrew Daley (four hits) and Sean Zaslaw (three hits, four RBIs) led the offense for the Wildcats. Andrew Ferguson belted his second home run of the season and drove in three RBIs. Gill Dolan had two hits and three RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Carver 13, Sandwich 1 (5 inn.): Paige Medico, Maddie Butler, Jenna Newell and Kayleigh Friberg had RBIs in a five-run third-inning outburst for the Crusaders.

Abington 8, West Bridgewater 1: Calli Pineau went 3-for-3 in the win with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Shannon Varvitsiotis pitched well to earn the win while Maddie Perry was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

East Bridgewater 5, Cardinal Spellman 0: Maggie Schlossberg tossed a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts in the win. Em McNaught (two hits, two RBIs, run) and Brooke Murphy (RBI, two runs) led the offense.

Hingham 15, Hanover 2: Noey Giardina was 3-for-3 with a triple for Hanover (4-3).

Walpole 4, Milton 1: The Wildcats dropped the Bay State Conference game.

Silver Lake 12, Plymouth South 1: Sisters Samantha and Alanna Waters both belted home runs for the Lakers (8-1) in the win. Bri Ghilardi, Nina O’Neil and Hannah Selig all had multi-hit days.

Plymouth North 9, Pembroke 3: Marissa Durette earned the win on the mound with nine strikeouts for the Blue Eagles. Plymouth North scored seven runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Callie Smith, Victoria Parent, Erin Ryan and Bella Piekarski.

NDA 7, Milton 6: On Saturday, Shannon MacLeod hit an over-the-fence grand slam in the top of the seventh to lift the Cougars (4-3). Claire Ferrara (3-for-4) and Olivia Mainvielle sandwiched singles around a Piper Levin (2-for-3) walk to set the stage. MacLeod got the win in the circle, striking out 10 and allowing six hits. Lauren White was 2-for-3 for NDA.

BOYS LACROSSE

Abington 23, Mashpee 5: Hunter Grafton (six goals, six assists), Patrick Prewitt (seven goals, three assists) and Jonathan Halpin (two goals, six assists) starred for the Green Wave.

Marshfield 17, Whitman-Hanson 3: Jeff Gomes won 60% of faceoffs in the loss for the Panthers (4-5).

Hull 8, Middleboro 3: Logan Chenette scored four goals while Sean Walsh made 14 saves for the Pirates. John Gianibas (two assists) and Henry Buchleitner both scored two goals.

Old Colony 14, Southeastern 4: Trevor Lodge scored his first varsity goal in the loss while handing out two assists for the Hawks. William Lannan scored two goals.

Cohasset 15, Rockland 4: The Skippers (10-1) won a South Shore League game behind four-goal games from Rob Norton (three assists) and Liam Appleton (four goals, assist). Charlie Donovan added three goals and two assists. Declan Lee, Thomas Hansen, Ben Joyce and goalie Colin Humphrey led the way defensively.

Norwell 19, East Bridgewater 3: The Clippers won the South Shore League game.

King Philip 15, Oliver Ames 4: Ben Reardon scored a hat trick in the loss.

Nauset 16, Bridgewater-Raynham 8: On Saturday, the Trojans led 4-3 at halftime before the Warriors took charge. James Murray (three goals, assist) and Zach Sinclair (two goals, two assists) led the way offensively.

Milton 16, Boston Latin Academy 10: The Wildcats won the non-league game on Saturday.

Cohasset 17, Hanover 4: Charlie Donovan had nine-point game (six goals, three assists) on Saturday for the Skippers (9-1).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Braintree 17, Pembroke 7: Claire Joyce (four goals) and Callie Burchill (two goals, assist, 10 draw controls) led the way for the Wamps.

Cardinal Spellman 19, Saint Joseph Prep 4: Elle Murphy (six goals), Eric O'Donnell (five goals) and Marina Duffy (four goals, three assists) led the way for the Cardinals. Lily McDonough and Virginia McCracken both scored their first varsity goals in the win. On Saturday, Spellman lost to Archbishop Williams, 9-7. Duffy scored four goals in the loss. The Bishops got goals from Clare O'Keefe (three), Avery Valicenti (two), Caroline Batchelder (two), Shea Nolan and Maggie Madaio.

Norwell 15, East Bridgewater 0: Caroline Burtch had a hat trick and five draw controls to lead the Clippers (7-2), who got goals from 12 different players. Darcy Driscoll scored and an added an assist.

North Quincy 12, Latin Academy 2: Autumn O'Campos scored five goals and had an assist while Kate Billard (assist) and Iris Gjoka had two-goal games for the Raiders. Melanie Chretian (two assists), Kendall Kazmouski and Faye Fitzpatrick all scored one goal. Cate Murray played well in goal.

Notre Dame Academy 16, Woburn 2: The Cougars improved to 11-0.

Canton 16, Stoughton 2: Emily McCabe, Kayleigh Koen and Devan Spinale all had hat tricks for the Bulldogs.

Oliver Ames 19, King Philip 1: The Tigers won the Hockomock League game.

Mashpee 10, Abington 8: Natalie Van Luling (four) and Molly Joyce (two) had multi-goal days in the loss.

Silver Lake 11, Bridgewater-Raynham 7: Sofia Caliento scored four goals, and Cloe Geraigery and Ava Nugent added two each for the Lakers. In the loss, Ashley McLaren, Emily Keefe, and Lexi White all scored two goals apiece for B-R.

Cohasset 19, Rockland 0: Ella Otfinoski scored a goal and had two assists in her first start for the Skippers.

On Saturday, Cohasset defeated Hanover, 17-9, behind five-goal games from Kira Fulton (assist) and Laney Larsen (three assists). Libby Schiffmann had a had trick. For Hanover, Ella Heyl made 13 saves.

Marshfield 10, Whitman-Hanson 7: Maddy Allen had a hat trick, and Ella Nagle scored twice for the Panthers (5-2, 2-2) in the Patriot League loss. Liv Godwin made 10 saves for W-H.

Cape Cod Academy 14, Plymouth South 3: The Panthers dropped the non-league game.

Scituate 16, North Quincy 4: Tess Railton (four goals) and Kate Stone (four goals, two assists) starred for the Sailors in Saturday's win. Melanie Chretian (two), Iris Gjoka and Autumn O'Campos scored for the Raiders.

BOYS TENNIS

Hingham 5, Hanover 0: Liam Arnold, John Murray and Victor San Antonio won in singles, and the Harbormen (7-1) swept the doubles with the teams of Teddy Reilly/Logan Price and Charlie Even/Mitchell Comer.

Durfee 5, Middleboro 0: The Sachems dropped the non-league game.

Hingham 5, Hanover 0: Liam Arnold, John Murray and Victor San Antonio all won in straight sets in the singles matches while Logan Price/Teddy Reilly and Charlie Even/Mitchell Comer did the same in doubles.

Quincy 3, Marshfield 2: Ethan Sheng won a close match at second singles (7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4)) to help the Presidents net the win.

North Quincy 5, Whitman-Hanson 0: The Raiders swept the Patriot League match.

GIRLS TENNIS

North Quincy 3, Whitman-Hanson 2: W-H's points came from first (Delaney Hughes/Sophie Ennis) and second doubles (Ciara Flynn/Riley Getchell).

Hingham 5, Hanover 0: Katelyn Erickson, Sanya Khadivi and Sammy Price swept the singles matches for the Harborwomen (7-0) while Sam Ruddick/Kate Radulski and Ellie Clark/Simran Vaishnaiva took the doubles.

Marshfield 5, Quincy 0: The Rams won the Patriot League game.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Greater New Bedford Voke 3, Quincy 0: The Presidents drop to 6-6.

BC High 3, Catholic Memorial 1: James Shriver had 12 digs as the Eagles improved to 7-3.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Brockton 79, Dartmouth 57: Karens Antoine (triple jump, 110m hurdles) was a double-winner for the Boxers. Other winners included: Luca Andrade (high jump), Matt Turco (long jump), Antonio Tobon (400m hurdles), Jared Mighty (400m) and Seamus Canniff (two mile). The 4x100m relay team of Chris Brice, Brandon Torres, Jovanni Volcimus and Cam Monteiro took first.

GIRLS GOLF

Cohasset 4, Quincy/North Quincy 2: Adalee Crowley won her match for QNQ.
