HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Seven Cape Cod teams headed to Elite Eight

In tennis and lacrosse on Wednesday, Cape Cod had seven teams win their MIAA tournament Sweet Sixteen matchups to advance to the Elite Eight to extend its seasons.

In other state tournament action:

Girls Lacrosse

Div. 4: No. 6 Sandwich 15, No. 11 Georgetown 4: Ryann Cobban (four goals, assist), Sophia Visceglio (three goals, assist), and Emma MacPherson (hat trick) led the offense for the Knights in the Sweet Sixteen win. Riley Morrison (two goals), Abi Kinney (goal), Quinn Anderson (goal, assist), Avery Cobban (goal) and Kyla Darmon (assist) also contributed on offense for Sandwich (16-4). They will face state champs No. 3 Dover-Sherborn in the Round of 8 at a later time and date.

Div. 4: No. 3 Dover-Sherborn 18, No. 14 St. John Paul II 5: The Lions (14-7) ended their season in the Sweet Sixteen.

Div. 2: No. 7 Scituate 15, No. 10 Falmouth 10: The Clippers (12-8) season ended in the Round of 16.

Boys Lacrosse

Div. 4: No. 6 Nantucket 13, No. 11 Rockland 3: The Whalers (14-6) advance to the Elite Eight and will face No. 3 Dover-Sherborn at a later time and date.

Div. 4: No. 2 Sandwich 16, No. 15 Advance Math & Science 3: Connor Stack was 17-for-18 on faceoffs to go with four assists and a goal in the Sweet Sixteen. Cole Rodgers (five goals), Dan Oman and Avery Richardson (hat trick each), Hunter West-Mather, Jack Connolly, Sullivan Gaffney, and Kurt Moniz (on goal each) all contributed on offense, while Shane Corcoran had 13 saves in net for Sandwich (13-7). The Blue Knights will face No. 7 Lynnfield at a later date and time in the Round of 8.

Div. 2: No. 2 Nauset 20, No. 18 Silver Lake Regional 7: The Warriors (17-3) will move on to the Elite Eight to face an opponent TBD.

Girls Tennis

Div. 4: No. 4 St. John Paul II 3, No.13 Amesbury 2: The Lions (18-1) have won 11 straight and will advance to the Elite Eight against No. 5 Lenox Memorial at a time and date TBD.

Div. 4: No. 10 Hopedale 4, No. 7 Monomoy 1: The Sharks (14-6) were upset in the Round of 16 to end their season.

Boys Tennis

Div. 3: No. 1 Wayland 5, No. 8 Cape Cod Academy 0: The Seahawks (14-3) made it to the Elite Eight for the second straight season, but fell short to the sop seed.

Div. 4: No. 7 Nantucket 3, No. 10 Hopedale 2: The Whalers (10-6) advance to the Round of 8 to face No. 4 Cohasset on Friday at 4 p.m.

Div. 3: No. 2 Martha’s Vineyard 5, No. 15 Boston Latin Academy 0: The Vineyarders (15-2) swept their way to the Elite Eight, where they will face No. 10 Medfield Friday at 2 p.m.

Div. 2: No. 6 Sharon 5, No. 22 Nauset 0: The Warriors (15-3) season came to an end in the Round of 16.
