High school roundup: Hodges, South Jefferson open season with girls lacrosse win over Indian River

Mar. 27—PHILADELPHIA — Savannah Hodges posted seven goals and three assists as South Jefferson roared out to an early lead en route to a 16-10 victory over Indian River in the Frontier League girls lacrosse opener Tuesday.

Lily Morrison added three goals along with four draw controls for the Spartans, who grabbed a 9-2 lead. Jade Doldo supplied two goals and an assist and Brooke Perry added a goal, an assist and six draw controls. Emma Kelley assisted on four goals and scored once.

Anna Hobbs made five saves in goal.

Ravan Marsell led Indian River with four goals and an assist and 10 draw controls. Michaela Delles accounted for four goals and two assists. Allison LaMora and Kallie Delles also scored.

CENTRAL SQUARE 11, CARTHAGE 10

Melayna Miller scored her fourth goal of the game in the second overtime period to lift Central Square over Carthage in a season-opening nonleague game in Central Square.

Miller added two assists in the evenly matched game in which each team scored seven goals in the first half and three in the second. Hannah Reichard added three goals and two assists for Central Square. Taylor Adams scored twice and Caroline Turo finished with a goal and an assist.

For the Comets, Macie Hancock led the way with four goals and an assist. Isabelle Wormwood added three goals and two assists, and Isabela Bigelow recorded a goal and an assist. McKinley Hancock and Cadance Jones added a goal.

MASSENA 19, MALONE 2

Brooke Terry headed the offensive output with four goals as the Raiders rolled past the Huskies in a Northern Athletic Conference-opening win in Massena.

Sami Avery contributed three goals and two assists, Lindsay D'Arienzo two goals and an assist and Hailey Lashomb a pair of goals. Harper Oakes assisted on three goals for Massena and also scored once. Jayla Thompson gave out two assists and scored a goal. Jordyn Jabaut, Joie-Lynn Jabaut, Lilly Fregoe, Jovi Rice and Keegan Roberts all scored once apiece.

BOYS LACROSSE

CARTHAGE 9, LOWVILLE 3

Trent Gardner scored three times and Grant Dicob supplied a goal and three assists as the Comets broke open a close game with six goals in the fourth quarter for the Frontier League-opening victory at Lowville.

Marcus Hickey, Evan Dicob, Tanner Yuhas, Gage Marino and Kayden Paquette each recorded a goal for Carthage. Zeb Stevens totaled six ground balls and Dicob added five. Conor Hickey made eight saves in goal.

Will Vokey scored twice for Lowville. Jack Rowsam added a goal.

CICERO-NORTH SYRACUSE 18, GENERAL BROWN 10

Donovan Chaney scored five goals and added an assist as Cicero-North Syracuse defeated General Brown in a season-opening nonleague game in Dexter.

Adrian Sweeney posted four goals and three assists for the Northstars. Rocco Villano followed with three goals and two assists. Tanner Long, Emmitt Porter and Joe Malecki each added a goal and an assist.

Gabe Secreti registered four goals and an assist for General Brown. Luke Dupee recorded three goals and two assists and Nolan Ganter two goals and an assist. Ethan McConnell added a goal for the Lions.

POTSDAM 16, MALONE 2

Devin Green struck for four goals and two assists as Potsdam defeated Malone in the NAC season-opener for each team in Potsdam.

Owen Lovely and Ben Draper supplied three goals and an assist apiece for the Sandstoners, and Liam McCargar finished with two goals and two assists. Quinn McGaheran scored twice and contributed an assist. Jack Pitts and Graham Shelby also scored with Pitts adding an assist.

Aiden Caron and Blake Holthaus each scored for Malone, in its second season playing lacrosse in the NAC.

BASEBALL

HEUVELTON 17, MORRISTOWN 1

Ryley Liscum pitched a one-hitter and struck out 12 in the five-inning game as Heuvelton rolled past Morristown in an NAC West Division opener in Heuvelton.

Liscum also drove in two runs at the plate. Landon Wiegandt and Jude Spooner each added an RBI for the Bulldogs.
