HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: D-Y softball continues hot streak with win over Nauset

The Dennis-Yarmouth softball team continued its hot streak with an 8-7 win over Nauset on Friday.

The Dolphins (7-7), who started the season 0-4, have won six of their last seven games. Savannah Azoff was the winning pitcher as she went seven innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits, striking out four and walking zero.

Gabby Tanon and Alexa Barboza each racked up multiple hits for D-Y, with Tanon leading with three hits in four at bats.

Softball

Falmouth 14, Barnstable 2: Anna Velesig pitched all five innings in the mercy-rule shortened game, striking out eight, and allowing a walk in the win for the Clippers. Kaylee Shaw (2-for-3, two doubles, two walks, two runs, four RBIs), Azaria Viall (3-for-3, three runs, three RBIs), and Kendall Joseph (2-for-3, double, run) led the hitting for Falmouth (6-7).

Sturgis 24, Martha’s Vineyard 6: Sturgis won their ninth straight to improve to 12-1, while the Vineyarders fall to 1-11.

Monomoy 7, Sandwich 3: Hailey Laincini (2-for-4), Lilly Furman (2-for-3), and AJ Gates (3-for-4) led the hitting for the Sharks (8-6). Lane Kraihanzel had a bunt, stole two bases and was brought home on an RBI bunt by Jenna Fay for Sandwich (5-9).

Baseball

Sandwich 5, Martha’s Vineyard 4: Seamus Vining went 3-for-3 with two doubles in the win for the Blue Knights. Brayden Ramsey and Ty Creighton each had two hits, and Jeremy Angeles added three RBIs and the save for Sandwich (12-3). Martha's Vineyard drops to 6-10.

Monomoy 14, Nantucket 4: The Sharks (8-8) won their second straight. Nantucket falls to 1-9.

Fairhaven 3, Bourne 2: Luca Finton and Griffin Kelly both drove in runs in the loss for the Canalmen (9-5).

Mashpee 6, Hull 3: The Falcons (9-3) have own three of their last four.

Barnstable 11, Falmouth 3: Sladen Johnson pitched four innings for the Redhawks, giving up only 1 earned run but took the loss due to five errors committed.  Offensively, Vincent Digiacomo went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Josh Hunter went 2-for-4. Sam Colesano went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Anthony Digiacomo went 1-for-4 with two RBIs to pace Barnstable (11-4). The Clippers falls to 5-8.

Boys Lacrosse

Old Rochester 14, Bourne 7: Max Beals had 15 saves for the Canalmen, but it was not enough for to get the win. Shea Ullo (three goals, assist), Owen Surrette (two goals), Brett Lucier (goal), and Brady Banks (goal, assist) for Bourne (6-8).

Monomoy 15, Mashpee 5: The Sharks Offense was led by Tamer Khalil (six goals, assist), Christian Whittle (five goals, two assists), Joey McKeen (three goals, two assists), Jackson Rocco (goal, assist) for Monomoy (9-3). Braeden Darling and Seamus St. Pierre each had an assist. The defense led by Max Barrett, Braeden Darling, Jordan Charlot, Owen Dubis, and Jackson Morneau. Jake Giorgio had four saves. Mashpee falls to 0-12.

Marshfield 19, Nauset 7: The Warriors (11-3) loss snapped a seven-game win streak.

Fairhaven 11, Martha’s Vineyard 3: The Vineyarders (7-5) snapped a two-game win streak in the loss.

Blue Hills 6, Upper Cape 2: The Rams fall to 4-10.

Falmouth 17, Barnstable 7: The Clippers (11-4) beat the Red Hawks (2-12).

Girls Lacrosse

Old Rochester 17, Bourne 11: Madigan Kelley led the offense with six goals for the Canalwomen in the loss. Tori Flaherty (three goals, assist, Brooke Lunedei (goal, two assists), and Kendall Fortune (goal, assist), while Caleigh Wrighter finished with five saves for Bourne (6-9).

Monomoy 12, Mashpee 6: The Sharks (12-2) won their 10th straight with the win over the Falcons (4-10).

Plymouth North 16, Falmouth 6: The Clippers drop to 6-6.

Sturgis East 12, Bristol Aggie 10: The Storm (2-10) snapped a seven-game slide with the win.

Boys Tennis

Sturgis 4, Monomoy 1: Colby Hall/Francisco Garcia Raya beat Gavin McDonnell/Maximus Weinberg (first doubles, 6-3, 6-1), and Ben Halunen/Robert Muhov defeated Connor Francis/Blake Noonan (second doubles, 7-6 (7-1), 6-1) for Sturgis.

Ray Zhang beat Vidan Vujosevic  (second singles, 7-6, (7-5), 6-3), and Ben Bass defeated Liam Jordan (third singles, 6-0, 6-0) for Sturgis (9-1).

Ryan Casey beat Mike Olson (first singles, 6-3, 6-1) for Monomoy (9-6).

Barnstable 4, Falmouth 1: Kyler Medeiros beat Bodie Larson (first singles, 6-1 6-2), Brennan Riley defeated Thomas Ghossien (second singles, 6-0 6-1), and Alex Arabadzhiev won over Quinton Heffernan (third singles, 6-2, 6-1) for the Red Hawks singles sweep. Thomas Berger/Mike Higginbotham beat Kunio Saito/Dheer Brahbhatt (second doubles, 6-1, 6-3) for Barnstable (11-3).

Jack Dunn/Sam Collins defeated Andy Coombs/Connor O'Reilly (first doubles, 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 tiebreaker) for Falmouth (2-8).

Teagan Myers/Caleb Dubin beat Kallen Kestenbaum/Andrew Chanya (first doubles, 6-0,6-0), and Kyle Levy/Tommy Flynn defeated Oakley Gully/Joey LaScola (second doubles, 6-3, 6-3) for Martha's Vineyard (9-1).

Nauset 4, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: The Warriors (10-1) picked up the win over the Dolphins (0-10).

Falmouth 5, Barnstable 0: Caroline Moskal beat Sophie Davis (first singles, 6-1, 6-1), Genevieve Maranchie defeated Sadora Barnda (second singles, 6-0, 6-0), and Rachel Larsen won over Teagan Geraghty (third singles, 6-1, 6-0) for the Clippers.

Alexis Christian and Maia Ledwell beat Kate Condinho and Maddie Devoe (first doubles, 6-2, 6-0), and Charlotte Bridges and Sadie Inman defeated Maria Cruz and Sofia Tymcyshyn (second doubles, 6-2, 6-2) for Falmouth (10-1). Barnstable drops to 4-8.

Cristin Schadt/Jill Ernstsrom defeated Maddy Burgess/Marissa Texiera (first doubles, 6-0, 6-0), and Katie Ray O'Reilly/Mia Carroll beat Willania Thompson/Sophia Suarez (second doubles, 6-2, 6-2) for Nauset (7-5). D-Y drops to 0-10.

Sophia Balsas/Ellie Pennington defeated Arianna Tedeschi/Chloe Cahoon (first doubles, 6-2, 6-3) for Martha's Vineyard (7-5).

Tenley Rothera/Mary Kestenbaum defeated Sophie Winters/Sophie Roads (second doubles, 7-5, 2-6, 11-9 tiebreaker) for Sandwich (2-13).
