High Desert football coaches weigh in on Super Bowl 58. See their predictions here

Super Bowl 58 between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs is set for Sunday at Allegiant Stadium, in Las Vegas.

These two teams faced off against one another in Super Bowl 54 with the Chiefs scoring 21 unanswered fourth-quarter points to rally past San Fransisco 31-20 at Hard Rock Stadium. Patrick Mahomes earned Super Bowl MVP honors by throwing for 286 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score.

Since then, the Chiefs have appeared in two more Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl 57 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, the 49ers get a shot at revenge and look for a record-tying sixth all-time Super Bowl.

Online, the pundits are overwhelmingly picking the Chiefs to win as ESPN asked its network of 64 experts to weigh in with their thoughts. There were 49 experts who selected Kansas City as their victors, while 15 were in favor of the 49ers.

The annual EA Sports simulation of the game, run on Madden NFL 23, says the Chiefs will win and Patrick Mahomes will be the Super Bowl MVP for a second consecutive season. The Madden simulation was wrong last year, but accurately predicted that the Chiefs would be the 49ers in Super Bowl 54.

Well, just for fun, we’ve asked the high school coaches from across the High Desert what they think.

Here’s what they had to say:

Alex Gonzalez, Granite Hills High School

Pick: 49ers 31, Chiefs 28

“Honestly, I hate this Super Bowl. If I had to choose, I’d choose the Niners. I don’t like the Niners and I hate the Chiefs because I’m a Raiders fan.”

Alex Vander Weide, Hesperia Christian School

Pick: 49ers 27, Chiefs 23

“The 49ers have the more complete team.”

Austin Crank, Silver Valley High School

Pick: Chiefs 27, 49ers 24

“You don’t bet against Mahomes.”

Casey Goodnough, Hesperia High School

Pick: Chiefs 28, 49ers 17

“Just because I’m a Raiders fan ... God wants to torture me with Chiefs success.”

Casey Maholchic, Serrano High School

Pick: n/a

“No prediction from me. I hope they both lose. Go Dolphins.”

Clayton Leleimene, Barstow High School

Pick: 49ers 21, Chiefs 17

“Both teams are clicking at the right time, therefore, I expect nothing short of a great game from both teams.”

Keron Jones, Silverado High School

Pick: 49ers 38, Chiefs 31

“I’m a 49ers fan and it has been 30 yards since the last Super Bowl win.”

Kyle Godfrey, Apple Valley High School

Pick: Chiefs 24, 49ers 17

“Because of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. Those guys know how to win and their ability to scheme a defense is second to none.”

Mike Dickinson, Academy of Careers & Exploration

Pick: Chiefs 24, 49ers 21

"KC is 4-0 in Las Vegas. Super Bowl experience plays big. The best QB/TE combination. Kansas City has a better defense, and defense wins championships."

Nate Stokes, Adelanto High School

Pick: Chiefs 38, 49ers 35

“It pains me to say as a Raiders fan that I have KC winning. If Mahomes has the ball last, he will deliver.”

Robert Kistner, Victor Valley High School

Pick: n/a

“My sons coached with Miguel Reveles, the old offensive coordinator at La Verne, who is an assistant for the 49ers. So, go Niners and Miguel. However, my future daughter-in-law and her family are KC fans. So I will not predict a score.”

Robert Metzger, Oak Hills High School

Pick: Chiefs 24, 49ers 17

“The Chiefs play great defense and have just enough offense to manage the game.”

Steve Randall, Riverside Prep

Pick: Chiefs 33, 49ers 21

“Never bet against Patrick Mahomes. And Taylor Swift is on a roll in the playoffs.”

Terry Cleveland, Sultana High School

Pick: Chiefs 31, 49ers 28

“Kansas City’s experience will prevail in the end. Plus, Mahomes seems to always find a way to win.”
