Here's why former Pro Bowl WR Jarvis Landry will be at Jaguars rookie minicamp this week

Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry will make his way to the Jacksonville Jaguars this week to work out with the team during their rookie minicamp this weekend.

Jacksonville will hold its rookie minicamp from May 9-13, the players will check in Thursday, hitting the field for the first time on Friday. Teams could opt for this weekend or last weekend to hold their minicamps.

Last week, it was reported that Landry will join the team, hoping to land a contract with the Jaguars or any other team that may want to utilize his services. He will work out on a try-out basis, meaning he is not officially signed with Jacksonville at this time.

Late last week, Landry took to the Rich Eisen show to share his thoughts on why now is the appropriate time for him to return to the league after sitting out all of last season.

"The last two seasons that I've played haven't went ideally for me. Being injured in Cleveland, injured in New Orleans, last year just trying to make sure I get my legs back under me," Landry said during the show's segment, guest-hosted by NFL Media's Tom Pelissero.

"To be able to walk into an opportunity this year, going out to get healthy, working with doctors, getting the support from people that I trust dearly, switching agents in the middle of all this, it really was a dark time for me trying to figure all of that out and maneuver."

Landry said that he did not end the last two seasons the way he wanted to, and he doesn't feel like they are reflective of the type of player he is.

Over the last two years when Landry was in the league, he accounted for just 77 catches for 842 yards and three scores. In 2022 with the Saints, Landry caught 25 passes for 272 yards and one touchdown. He'd made the Pro Bowl five times from 2015-19 playing for both the Dolphins and Browns during that span.

In his career, Landry has caught 713 passes for 7,870 yards and 38 touchdowns. He's started 116 games.

With new opportunities, he feels he still has more to give to the game of football.

What would the Jaguars be getting out of Jarvis Landry?

With Landry joining the Jaguars this weekend to try out, there are questions about what he has left and could bring to the table. For him, the answer is easy.

"The same Jarvis Landry you always got," Landry said when asked what a team would get in him. "A hard worker, professionalism, team guy, leader, community guy and production."

Landry said that there were other teams in the mix last year and there are teams in the mix this year for his services.

Now, he will get an opportunity to share his advice with Jaguars rookie WR Brian Thomas Jr., a fellow LSU alum.

"I'm looking forward to that," he said.

Though Landry didn't indicate why exactly he chose to participate with the Jaguars, he did share some insight into his thought process about what his next team ideally will look like.

"On top of getting healthy, I want to be in a situation to be valued. I think that understanding a little bit of how the NFL works and seeing this side of it, and knowing football, it can get tricky at times... I feel like [time away from football] made me kind of hone in on what I wanted to do as a football player as well. I wanted to be in a position to be valued in an offense, I wanted an opportunity to be valued in a team and earn that. Have the opportunity to earn that also."

Landry says that that's part of the process he and his team are trying to figure out now: What type of team suits him best and where he will best succeed?

"It's not about the money. It's not about the money, [it's about] having an opportunity to truly earn value on a team and play good football," he said.
