The Herald's top 10 NCHC transfers for 2023-24
Oct. 13—GRAND FORKS — There are 27 transfers coming into the National Collegiate Hockey Conference this season. Here's a list of the top 10 impact transfers:
1. Cameron Berg, F, North Dakota (Omaha): The New York Islanders draft pick is strong, likes to shoot the puck and could be UND's first-line center.
2. Sam Colangelo, F, Western Michigan (Northeastern): The 6-foot-2 Anaheim Ducks draft pick has an excellent shot and put up 51 points over the last two seasons at Northeastern.
3. Connor McMenamin, F, Minn. Duluth (Penn State): The fifth-year senior is coming off of his best college season — a 24-point campaign at Penn State. He could be a top-six winger for the Bulldogs.
4. Garrett Pyke, D, North Dakota (Alaska): Pyke captained Alaska to within a game of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. He can do a little bit of everything — defend and chip in offense.
5. Keaton Pehrson, D, North Dakota (Michigan): Pehrson was the shutdown defender on Michigan's top defensive pairing the last three seasons, playing with Cam York, Owen Power and Luke Hughes.
6. Ludvig Persson, G, North Dakota (Miami): Persson showed his game-stealing ability at Miami. If he can add more consistency to his game, he could be a top NCHC netminder.
7. Matteo Costantini, F, Western Michigan (North Dakota): Costantini had a productive freshman season at UND (21 points) but couldn't get it going as a sophomore (three points). He's expected to be a top-six center for the Broncos.
8. Raimonds Vitolins, F, Miami (Vermont): Vitolins started his college career at Vermont, but returned to junior hockey, where he thrived in Green Bay. He is a candidate to play top-line center for Miami.
9. Jesse Lansdell, F, Omaha (Notre Dame): Omaha nabbed a forward from Notre Dame in the summer of 2022 in Jake Pivonka and went back to the well this summer to grab Lansdell.
10. Joe Cassetti, F, Western Michigan (Miami): Cassetti is a 6-foot-4 center who quietly put up 10 goals on a non-explosive Miami team last season.
