Heat drop Raptors in OT to secure sixth seed in East

Wayne Ellington came off the bench to score 32 points, and the Miami Heat topped the visiting Toronto Raptors 116-109 on Wednesday in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Miami (44-38) climbed up to the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs thanks to its win and the Milwaukee Bucks' loss. The Heat will face the third-seeded Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the postseason.

Toronto (59-23) had long since clinched the East's No. 1 seed. The Raptors will begin the playoffs against the eighth-seeded Washington Wizards.

Bam Adebayo's three-point play opened the overtime scoring, and Miami led the rest of the way.

Late in regulation, the Heat took a 105-103 lead on Ellington's 3-pointer with 18.8 seconds left. A tip-in by Jakob Poeltl with 8.4 seconds left the score tied, and Miami's James Johnson missed a shot for the win.

Aside from Ellington, seven other Heat players scored either 11 or 10 points. Hassan Whiteside had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Kyle Lowry led Toronto with 28 points, and he added 10 rebounds and nine assists. DeMar DeRozan scored 19 points, and Poeltl had 16 points and 12 boards.
