Hawkeyes’ Kate Martin picked 18th by the defending champion Las Vegas Aces
Caitlin Clark wasn’t the only Hawkeye to take the stage at the WNBA draft on Monday night. Iowa teammate Kate Martin was selected 18th by the defending champion Las Vegas Aces.
Martin said she was there to support top-pick Clark, who shared the “Saturday Night Live” stage with her and Iowa teammates Gabbie Marshall and Jada Gyamfi just two days ago. All three attended the draft at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, as fans were invited to attend for the first time.

“A lot of emotions. I was hoping to hear my name called,” Martin told Holly Rowe on ESPN. “All I wanted was an opportunity — and I got it.”
Just before her name was called, Martin was asked to move to an aisle seat, according to a reporter and photographer at the event, Aliyah Funschelle.
Her family celebrated in the Quad Cities area and shared the moment they learned Martin was drafted with Hawkeye Headquarters. You can watch their reactions in the video at the top of this page.
Martin scored 1,299 points, grabbed 756 rebounds and dished out 473 assists for the Hawkeyes.
