Hamstring injury keeping TE Darren Waller out of Raiders camp ‘not considered serious’

Darren Waller hasn’t set foot on the practice field for training camp in over two weeks. Also true is Darren Waller is overdue for receiving a new contract. So, naturally this leads to one wondering if perhaps those two things are related.

When asked about Waller Friday morning, head coach Josh McDaniels would only say his Pro Bowl tight end is “He’s working to get back.”

While we can’t really know definitively if there is a connection, a report from Adam Schefter says Waller is not practicing due to a hamstring injury which is not deemed serious.

If you’ll recall, Waller missed a good portion of last year’s camp with an injury issue. He would return in time for the season. Waller was in attendance at the WNBA Las Vegas Aces game the other night where he apparently hinted to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez that he could be back as soon as next week.

Though Waller has made it clear, he will be at practice and play regardless of whether he has a new deal in place or not, he shouldn’t have to be out there risking injury without a new deal in place. At this point, we are still a ways off from the season, so there isn’t a huge rush to return.
