Hamilton races to second at regionals; several qualify for state

ALLENDALE - The Hamilton boys finished second at the Division 2 track and field regional on Thursday.

The Hawkeyes scored 103.5 points. Whitehall won the regional title with 168.5. Holland Christian placed 11th (27).

Several Hawkeyes and one Holland Christian relay qualified for the Division 2 state meet. The top two in each event automatically qualified as well as any who hit the MHSAA qualifying standard.

Ben Boehm won the regional title in the 100 meters (10.95) to qualify for the Division 2 state meet. Boehm also finished second in the 200 meters (22.30) to qualify for state.

Abatu Dykstra finished third in the 800 meters in a state qualifying time of 2:00.59.

Max Van Huis took fourth in the 1,600 in a state qualifying time of 4:29.00. He also took second in the 3,200 to qualify (9:46.41).

Boehm teamed with Zeus Chico, Keaton Haverdink and Emilio Calderon to take fourth in the 4x100 relay in a state cut (44.58).

Parker Matheny, Lincoln Phillips, Jeren Bronkhorst and Boehm took fourth in the 4x200 in a state cut (1:32.12). Matheny, Josh Langeland, Ty Ritsema and Dykstra took third in the 4x400 in a state cut (3:28.71).

Matheny, Langeland, Van Huis and Dykstra won the 4x800 (8:04.34).

Alex VanDyke took second in the discus (137-9) to qualify for state.

In the girls meet, Hamilton was fourth (75.75). Unity Christian won the region with 105.75. Holland Christian finished seventh (48.75).

Jeralyn Hoppes won the regional title in the 100-meter hurdles (16.15) to qualify for state. She also won the 300 hurdles (48.61).

Hamilton's Stella Kotowski took third in the 100 meters in a state cut (12.95) and third in the 200 meters in a state cut (26.34).

Kotowski, Hoppes, Elyse Genzink and Jenna Dozeman took second in the 4x400 relay (4:16.38) to make state.

Hamilton's Aliyah Springer took second in the shot put (35-3 1/2) to qualify for state and was second in the discus (121-5) to qualify.

Izabella Tamminga took second in the pole vault (9-0) to qualify.

Holland Christian's Kyah Hicks, Chloe Chesser, Avery Brower and Abbe Baas won the 4x100 relay (50.68) to qualify for state.

Chesser took third in the long jump (16-3), missing the state cut by an inch.
