Halle Bormann is an offensive force for Clear Creek Amana girls soccer

During a scoreless first half of the final regular season home game for Clear Creek Amana, senior Halle Bormann charges down the middle of the field while teammate Lena Evans drives the ball on the right side.

Lena delivers a pinpoint accurate pass to Bormann who gathers herself calmly, then aggressively launches a shot to give the Clippers a one-goal advantage over Solon just before halftime.

“It’s a Bormann trait. My family tells me, 'You got to be goal-hungry and everything else will be fine too’," Bormann said. “I like to play on my feet and I was lucky enough to get the ball from Lena.”

After the break, the CCA midfielder delivered again; scoring a little over two minutes into the second half to extend the Clippers' lead.

Bormann’s two goals proved to be a differencemaker in the Clippers’ 2-0 win over the Spartans. CCA, the No. 10 team in Class 2A, improved to 10-2 while Solon dropped to 5-6 on the season.

“We lost to them the past two years, we just wanted to prove how good we are, and our team, we like to battle,” Bormann said.

Halle Bormann is an undeniable playmaker

The Clippers have won three straight games, with Bormann scoring seven goals over that stretch.

With three games left in the regular season, she currently has a team-high 17 goals, which is more than double her total of seven from last season. Bormann's consistent scoring has exceeded even her own expectations.

“I’ve always joked that I like to pass more than shoot and I still feel that way, I’ve just been getting better shots,” Bormann said. “I’ve put in the work this offseason and it’s coming through on the stat line.”

Bormann developed her aggressive style from being the youngest of five siblings, which has translated over to how she handles herself on the field. She's been playing soccer since she was 2 or 3 years old and has since become a serious passion for the CCA senior.

"It's a joke in our family that we all come out kicking soccer balls because everyone in my family has played soccer their whole lives," Bormann said.

Whether it's practicing on CCA's soccer field or dedicating time to private workouts in Des Moines, Bormann's commitment to hard work is unwavering.

"She's an amazing player, she puts in the hard work offseason and during the season," Evans said. "She's been doing soccer for a while too and she's a great person in general."

An ultimate player and teammate

Physical. Quick. Diverse.

Those are three characteristics Bormann said best described her playing style.

Along with her scoring, Bormann is a team player, earning 11 assists so far this season. She’s known for being a leader who voices her support for her teammates on and off the field.

“She gives me lots of advice…I know I struggle a lot on the field with not knowing some of the stuff and she tells me what to do, when to make the run,” Evans said. “She knows a lot about soccer and even outside of soccer, she helps me with my up and down days.”

Bormann plans to play soccer for Belmont Abbey College, a Division II program in North Carolina, after high school. But she wants to make history with the Clippers before moving on to the next level.

“We want to be the first team to ever make it to state in this program and we just got to keep doing as our coach says,’ All gas, no breaks’ so we just keep pushing forward,” Bormann said.

CCA will look to continue their success as they travel to face Independence (8-2) on Friday. Solon will look to bounce back against West Delaware (2-8) on Thursday.
