H.S. track & field: Mooney lifts Stonington boys over Fitch 82-67

Apr. 29—GROTON — Joshua Mooney captured four events, pacing Stonington past Fitch, 82-67, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I boys' track and field meet on Wednesday.

Mooney won the 100-meter dash in 11.4 seconds, the 200 in 23.0, 110 hurdles in 15.6 and 300 hurdles in 44.7.

Ryan Gruczka finished first in the 1,600 in 4:33.5 and 3,200 in 10:20.5 for the Bears, who improved to 3-0 overall, 2-0 in Division I.

Gavin Asciolla won the long jump in 18 feet, 6.75 inches, and triple jump in 37-0 for the Falcons (2-1, 1-1).

In other meets:

— Joe Klick took first in the javelin and shot put (46-4.5) to help lead Norwich Free Academy past Ledyard, 116-34, in an ECC Division I meet. Glendon Dawson won the 110 hurdles (17.7) and 300 hurdles (44.9) while Dangelo Aristilde won the 100 (11.1) and 200 (22.8) for the Wildcats (3-0, 2-0). Ryan Kinney won the pole vault (12-0) for the Colonels (1-2, 0-2).

— Alex Louissaint finished first in the 100, triple jump, long jump and high jump to lift Montville past Tourtellotte, 73-46, in an ECC Division III meet. Zach Handler won the 400 and ran a leg on the winning 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams for the Indians (1-2, 1-1).

— Justin Thuotte took first in the long jump in 17-7 and triple jump in 40-8.5 to pace Lyman Memorial past Putnam in ECC Division III. Tye Kukucka won the discus (72-11) and javelin (95-0) while Maxwell Hussey won the 800 (2:21) and ran a leg on the winning 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams for the Bulldogs (2-1, 2-0).

— Blake Harris finished first in the 110 hurdles (17.9) and 300 hurdles (46.4), helping East Lyme beat Waterford, 84-64, in ECC Division I. The Vikings (2-1, 1-1) swept the relay events, taking the 4x100 (William Anglin, Noam Sokolovsky, Ben Thompson, Maxwell Lichtenfels) in 47.1, 4x800 (Fred Rukundo, Theodore Bergman, Kai Ritz, James Chekal) in 9:07.9 and 4x400 (Sokolovsky, Ritz, Magnum Brandt, Nathan Bergman) in 3:42.4. Sam Menders won the long jump (21-9), triple jump (42-6.5), pole vault (8-6) and high jump (6-2) for the Lancers (0-3, 0-2).

— Tyler Farwell won the shot put (37-1) and javelin (129-5) as Griswold won every event in its 123.33-17.66 win over St. Bernard in an ECC Division III meet. Ryan Pelillo won the 110 hurdles (19.5) and 300 hurdles (50.6) for the Wolverines (3-0, 3-0) and Devon Chykow won the 100 (11.5) and 200 (23.5). Also, Jacob Strain won the 400 (53.6) and high jump (5-6), Lucas Strain won the 800 (2:06.6) and long jump (18-6), Michael Strain won the 1,600 (4:40.7) and Anthony Gaeta won the discus (102-10). The team of Ben Jeffs and the three Strains won the 4x800 (8:45.9), Farwell, Pelillo, Gaeta and Chykow won the 4x100 (47.4), and Michael Yoke and the Strains won the 4x400 (3:38.8). The Saints are 0-2, 0-1.

Girls

— NFA defeated Ledyard, 80-66, in an ECC Division I meet as Jasmyn Bransford (100, 12.5; long jump, 15-11.75), Anna Ricketts (1,600, 5.55.3), Kayla Park (400, 61.3), Eliana Duclos (800, 2:30.7) led the way with wins. The Wildcats are 1-2, 1-1. Natalie Poulton won the shot put (32-1) and discus (103-6.75) for the Colonels (1-2, 0-2).

— Morgan Tartaglia was a triple winner, taking first in the shot put (23-.4.75), discus (65-11) and javelin (65-5), as Lyman Memorial beat Putnam, 125-6, in an ECC Division III meet. Kasey Cook also won three events, the high jump (4-10), 300 hurdles (59.2) and 100 hurdles (19.77) for the Bulldogs (2-1, 2-0).

— Sam Kuruchi won the long jump (13-6) and triple jump (29-9) and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams in Montville's 97-25 win over Tourtellotte in ECC Division III. Katelyn Plikus took first in the 100 hurdles (17.1) and 300 hurdles (56.9) while Kelsey Chiasson won the shot put (28-10) and discus (71-8) for the Indians (2-1, 2-0).

— Savannah Soleau won the javelin (97-11) and shot put (36-3) to lift East Lyme past Waterford, 130-20, in ECC Division I. Brianna am Ende took first in the high jump (4-8) and 800 (2:35.9) for the Vikings (3-0, 2-0). Lillie Abramowicz won the triple jump (33-2.75), 100 (13.2) and 200 (26.2) for the Lancers (1-1-1, 0-1-1).

— Serena Britner won the 800 (2:55.7), 1,600 (5:45.5) and the 3,200 (14:15.3) and ran on the winning 4x800 relay team as St. Bernard downed Griswold, 101-31, in an ECC Division III meet. Juliet Brady won the 100 (13.1) and 200 (27.8), Aaliya Masters won the 100 hurdles (21.4) and 300 hurdles (1:04.5), Lindsey Reilly won the shot put (28-3.5) and discus (76-4) and Halie Jennings won the 400 (1:09.9) for the Saints (2-0, 1-0). Also, Lillian Turner, Anna Graul, Adeline Arvidson and Britner won the 4x800 (14:27.5) and Katie Power, Rielly, Brady and Jennings won the 4x400 (5:25.3). Taylor Bialowas won the long jump (15-9.5), triple jump (31-4.5) and high jump (4-2) for the Wolverines (0-3, 0-2).

— Grasso Tech finished second during a tri-meet against Ellis Tech and Vinal Tech in Danielson on Tuesday. Ellis Tech won the meet with 67 points while Grasso Tech finished with 18 and Vinal Tech with 13. Natalie MacCulloch won the 100-meter hurdles for the Eagles.
