H.S. Roundup: Lancaster VB finishes as runner-up in Shaner-Wohrer VB tournament

VOLLEYBALL

Lady Gales finish as runner-up: Host Lancaster had a solid showing in the annual Shaner-Wohrer Memorial Volleyball Tournament as they finished as tournament runner-up.

The Gales fell 25-8, 25-16 against tournament champion Dublin Jerome. Jenna Grabans had four kills and one block, Kyliegh Rohr added two blocks and Maddie Kemp finished with six kills and two blocks.

Lancaster won its first two matches. The Gales defeated Fairfield Christian Academy 25-16, 25-10 as Chandler Crowell had eight kills and two blocks, Emma Wilfing added four kills, Megan Green chipped in 12 digs and was 6-for-6 in serve receive and had one ace.

The Gales also defeated Liberty Union 25-18, 25-16. They received outstanding defensive play from Aufry Hughes, Drea Echard and Jada Johnson. Crowell had five kills and one block, while Zoe Mitchell and Adeline Krutsch had two kills each and Krutsch added three aces.

CROSS COUNTRY

Lancaster girls place third: The Lady Gales competed at the Northmont Invitational and placed third out of 10 teams.

Marisa Heil placed second in a field of 158. Ava Parrett took 3rd, followed by Sarah Johnson in 17th, Katie Coy in 24th, Ava Zeiders in 26th, Lily Carpico in 31st and Bella Specht in 31st. Freshmen Brenna Jarrett, Emma Loudon, and Annabelle Walter all improved their times from last week by 30 seconds or better.

Fisher Catholic competes at NC: The Irish boys and girls ran in the Newark Catholic Invitational at the Bryn Du Mansion in Granville. The Irish Boys placed seventh out of 15 Teams scoring 203 points while Columbus Desales won the meet scoring 68 points. Leading the Irish was senior Jack Gentile with a time of 17:54 to finish in 24th place. Other Irish finishers were Landen Funk-18:14.5-32nd, Roman Funk- 18:18.7-35th, Thomas Ristau- 19:17-54th, Reese Hagy-19:32.2-62nd, Daschel Neighbor- 19:49--67th, Nicholas Ristau- 19:55.8- 72nd- Jake Taylor- 21:34- 99th, Noah Krile- 23:20.2 and Anthony Teti- 34:18.

The Irish girls placed eighth out of 15 Teams scoring 209 points while Fairfield Union won the meet scoring 75 points. Leading the Irish girls was senior Ruby Hagy with a time of 21:32.5-15th place. Other Irish runners were Ava Albert-22:40- 33rd, Mary Grace Crabtree-22:47.9, personal best- 35th, Abigail Crabtree- 23:52.5-59th, and Eve Ohwofahwaraye- 25:38.6-78th.

SOCCER

Minford 2, Lancaster 1: The Lady Gales came up short in their home non-conference loss to Minford.

The Lady Gales outshot the Falcons 6-1 in the first half, and with 1:25 left in the half, Sienna Westbrooks took a corner kick that Andie Jurecki headed in to put the Lady Gales up 1-0.  In the second half the Falcons were able to score off two direct kicks. Despite taking six shots, Lancaster was not able to find another goal. Grace Hampson had one save and Madelyn Boothe had six saves in goal for the Lady Gales.

GOLF

Lancaster boys golf: The Gales traveled to Pine Hill Golf Course to compete in the Pickerington North Invitational. The Gales shot a 353 which was good for 18th out of 20 teams. Sophomore Gabe Betts led the Gales with a 79. Zane Brengman shot a 90, Camden Campbell 91, Jacob Miller 93, and Ben Richardson 105.

Fairfield Union girls-boys golf: Both the Falcon girls and varsity boys golfers were busy this weekend. The Lady Falcons competed in their MSL #2 at Valley View on Saturday. Although they couldn't score as a team, both played as individuals. Kelsey Hawkins shot a 131 and Lauren Mason had 133.

The Varsity boys competed in the Pickerington North Invitational at Pine Hill. The team finished in 16th place out of 20 teams with a score of 352. Elijah Reed led the Falcons with 82, Ty Fisher 87 Isaiah DeLong 90 Bryce Lepi 93 and Caleb Boyer 95.

Bloom-Carroll girls place third: The Bulldogs competed in the Mid-State League Division #2 tournament at Valley View Golf Course. Circleville (346) finished first followed by Teays Valley (392), Bloom-Carroll (440), Liberty Union (Logan Elm (499), Wellington (540), Miller) 564).

Scoring for Bloom-Carroll was McKenna Phillips 96; Niley Mathias 97; Zoey Comston 122 and Haley Rosen 125.

Lancaster girls place fifth: The Lady Gales competed in the Ohio Capital Conference-Ohio Division #3 match at Westchester Golf Course. The Gales placed fifth out of seven teams with a 421 total.

Aubrie Bibler led the Gales with a 91, followed by Molly Stedman 104, Brennan Salapek 117, Autumn Hinton 117 and Nirvana Smith 109.
