H.S. Roundup: Area teams continue to thrive during this week’s action

CROSS COUNTRY

Fairfield Union boys-girls: The Falcons boys’ team won the Backwoods Invitational against 23 other teams. Drew Walton led the way with a first-place finish and broke a meet record in a time of 9:12.28. Nathan Phillips was Third overall, Christian Reindle 6th, AJ Ray 17th, Chase Miller 33rd, Connor Runkle 36th, and Connor Myers 49th.

The girls’ team finished third out of 26 teams. Anna Conrad led the way with a second-place finish earning her the fourth-fastest meet time of 11:08.82. Addy Winters was 30th, Vera Henderly 31st, Claire Wilkinson 42nd, Ava Wilkinson 47th, Averey Cottrill 66th and Taylor Colopy 69th overall.

Fisher Catholic boys-girls: The Irish competed in the Backwoods 2-Miler Invitational. The Irish boys placed ninth out of24 teams, and they were led by senior Jack Gentile, who placed 18th with a time of 10:15.7 and sophomore Roman Funk, who placed 25th with a time of 10:25.2. Other Irish runners were Landen Funk- 10:49.8- 67th, Reece Hagy- 10:52.4- 76th, Daschel Neighbor- 11:17.3- 108th, Nathan Krile- 11:26.3- 123rd, Thomas Ristau-11:58.7- 165th, Nicholas Ristau- 12:10.5- 175th, Jake Taylor- 12:50.7-219th, Noah Krile- 13:18.6- 245th, and Anthony Teti- 18:46.6- 298th.

The Irish girls placed 15h out of 26 teams. Leading the way was senior Ruby Hagy who placed 18th with a time of 12:19.7. Other Irish runners were Allie Krile- 13:11.5- 56th, Mary Grace Crabtree- 13:15.4- 61st, Abigail Crabtree- 14:04.5- 104th and Eve Ohwoforwaraye- 14:18.1- 115th.

GOLF

Lancaster boys: The Gales competed in the Division I sectional tournament at Eaglesticks Golf Club. They shot a 345, which was good for 11th out of 12 teams. The Gales were led by sophomore Gabe Betts who shot a career low 76. Junior Zane Brengman also had a career day shooting an 82. Junior Camden Campbell shot a 92, sophomore Jacob Miller 95, and sophomore Devon Schultz 107.

Fairfield Union boys: Isaiah Delong wrapped up the Falcons’ golf season at Crown Hill Golf Course during the Division II Southeast district tournament and fired an 87 to finish up his junior season, which included multiple medalist rounds and earning MSL-Buckeye Co-Player of the Year honors.

Lancaster girls: The Lady Gales had a 452 team total in the Division I sectional tournament at Pickaway Country Club. Molly Stedman has 102 and was followed by Nirvana Smith (114), Autumn Hinton (117) and Brennan Salapek (119).

Fairfield Union girls: The Lady Falcons wrapped up their season at Pickaway Country Club in the Division I sectional tournament. Lauren Mason finished with 115 and Kelsey Hawkins had a 139.

SOCCER

Bloom-Carroll 9, Zanesville Rosecrans 0: The Bulldogs scored early and often in their non-conference win over the Bishops. Tessa Brooks scored three goals to lead the way. Savannah Wilde and Morgan Adams added two goals each, and Cameron Hartsook and Davynn Miller chipped in one goal each. Elizabeth Cline finished with three saves.

DeSales 4, Lancaster 2: The Lady Gales fell short in their non-conference match against the Stallions. The Lady Gales got off to a flying start by scoring three minutes and two seconds into the game. Andie Jurecki played a pass to the left that Sienna Westbrooks was able to run onto and shoot into the goal. DeSales then rallied for two goals prior to halftime.

The first 20 minutes of the second half was a back-and-forth affair. Lancaster recorded six shots in the second half while DeSales took seven shots. In the last 20 minutes of the game, DeSales was able to score two more goals. The Lady Gales did not give up and were able to score with one minute and nineteen seconds left in the game.  Lily Palmer crossed a ball from close range. The DeSales goalie was not able to handle the cross and Sienna Westbrooks was able to shoot the ball in the goal for her second goal of the game. Grace Hampson recorded five saves for Lancaster in the first half and Madelyn Boothe recorded three saves in the second half.

Bloom-Carroll 4, Pickerington Central 3: Behind four goals from junior Savannah Wilde and four assists from Lilly Friestat, the Bulldogs were able to rally past the Tigers in a non-conference win over the Tigers. Bloom-Carroll trailed 2-1 at halftime. Elizabeth Cline finished with 10 saves in goal.

VOLLEYBALL

Lancaster 3, Reynoldsburg 0: The Lady Gales came away with a 25-15, 25-19, 25-20 Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division over the visiting Raiders.

Adeline Krutsch had eight kills and two blocks, Chandler Crowell had eight kills and one block, Cidney Sark chipped in five kills, and Drea Echard had 10 digs and four aces.

Bloom-Carroll 3, Teays Valley 2: The Bulldogs picked up a huge Mid-State League-Buckeye Division 21-25, 25-13, 25-19, 26-24 win over the Tigers to improve to 17-1 overall and 11-0 in the league.

Jazlynn Caton had 25 digs, Corinne Knapp had 15 kills seven digs and four aces, Madison Lacy added 57 assists and eight digs and Evelyn Brown chipped in 17 kills.

Fairfield Union tops A-C: The Falcons topped the aces in four sets in their MSL-Buckeye Division win to improve to 14-4. Christian Thompson finished with 20 kills, 19 digs and two solo blocks. Cara Miller had 31 digs and Peyton Rhymer added 13 assists.

Fairfield Christian Academy: The Knights topped Berne Union 25-15, 25-13, 25-10. Claire Deem had 12 aces and 10 assists, Sylvia Ross added nine kills two blocks and eight digs, Ella Koehler had 15 kills and seven digs, and Sam Rouser chipped in 17 assists and eight digs.

The Knights defeated Zanesville Rosecrans 25-16 25-17, 25-8. Katy Smeltzer served 18 pts and three aces, and Ella Koehler had five aces and 14 kills. Claire Deem had two aces two kills, 10 assists, and 12 digs. Sam Rouser finished with kills 12 digs and 17 assists, and Sylvia Ross added 11 kills. The Knights are 10-1 and 14-3 overall.

TENNIS

Lancaster 3, Grove City 2: The Lady Gales topped the Greyhounds in non-conference action.

Gracyn Gagni won at first singles 6-0, 6-2. Kynlee Baer won at second singles 6-3,6-2, and Andi Green won at third singles 6-1,6-1. In doubles, Tori Wellington and Kaylee Akers lost a three-set match 6-7, 6-3,6-7, while Chelsie Hoffman and Kenzie White were defeated 4-6, 1-6.
