H.S. boys swimming: Penn claims own sectional title while runnerup Riley sets four records

Penn won five events to outdistance South Bend Riley, 531-421, to win its own IHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving Sectional team title.

Nathaniel Temeles was a double winner for the Kingsmen, claiming the 200 freestyle (1:42.66) and the 100 freestyle (46.83). Other winners for Penn were Cole Stevenson in the 200 individual medley (1:42.59), Seth Werntz in the 500 freestyle (4:43.76), and the 200 freestyle relay team of Stevenson, Werntz, Kelan Whitehouse and Reid Ohlson (1:27.38).

Riley won the other seven events, hightlighted by a four sectional-record performances. The 200 medley relay foursome of Ignatius Ruszkowski, Christopher Bartmess, Joel Kricheff and Padraig Chapman broke their own 2023 mark with a time of 1:30.65.

Bartmess add two more individual titles, both in sectional-record times, for the Wildcats in the 100 butterfly (48.91) and the 100 breaststroke (54.31). The 400 freestyle relay squad of Kricheff, Ruszkowski, Chapman and Bartmess) won in another record time of 3:08.42. Chapman won the 50 free (21.26), Ruszkowski won the 100 backstroke (50.44), Eliot Riem won the diving competition (352.10) and the

Northridge wins at Elkhart

Sawyer Lehman won two individual events and swam a leg of a winning relay team to help Northridge edge Concord, 378-363, at the Elkhart Sectional.

Lehman won the 200 individual medley (1:53.46) and the 100 breastroke (57.67) and combined with Evan Haney, Jeremiah Bekhterev and Tim Blough to win the 200 medley relay (1:37.31). Also win over Northridge was Deacon Smith in the 500 freestyle (4:40.10).

Concord got just one win in its team runnerup effort. Camden Stutsman won the 100 butterfly (52.26) for the Minutemen.

NorthWood's 200 freestyle relay team of Andrew Williams, Ty Stankovich, Julian Jansen, Dillon Boggs won in a time of 1:30.47. Also for the Panthers, Williams won the 50 freestyle (22.07) and Bryce Knepp won the diving competition (359.50).
