Guntersville boys soccer falls in double OT to Gulf Shores in Class 5A title game

HUNTSVILLE — Guntersville boys soccer came up just short in the Class 5A state soccer championship.

Talan Galvan scored the game winning goal for the Dolphins with two minutes remaining in the second overtime period.

AJ Shumate got the Wildcats going early taking a penalty kick in the first 10 minutes but they struggled and were outshot five to two until the final minutes of the half. In the final two minutes, Brandon Manganaris scored on an assist by Will Davis, as Manganaris pushed it past the goalie who attempted to make a save as it slowly rolled into the goal. It helped swing momentum into the Wildcats' favor going into the half.

Noah Guthrie got the Dolphins on the board early in the second half and Talan Galvan tied the match with just more than 13 minutes remaining. The Dolphins dominated the Wildcats in the shot department, with 14 shots to four but only had seven on goal. The Wildcats tallied three shots on goal and made the most of their limited opportunities.
