Griffon women stave off Jennies

Jan. 28—It was a block party in Warrensburg, Missouri, as Missouri Western women's basketball posted a season-high seven blocks in its win over No. 16 Central Missouri 77-69 on Saturday.

The Griffon's current win streak is now up to five games with the victory, and five straight wins over the Jennies dating back to Dec. 11, 2021, including two wins over ranked UCM teams.

Neither team allowed much cushion in the first half, as the lead never got any larger than five points. The first two minutes and 45 seconds of the third quarter would see more trading of blows by each team as the less-than-three-minute stretch saw four lead changes and one tie. The Griffon women would eventually find their groove and find themselves holding a 10-point lead with 9:23 remaining in the fourth quarter. However, the Jennies would go the rest of the game without making it interesting. UCM would tie the game at 64 with 6:20 remaining, but the Griffons would not blink by outscoring the Jennies 13-5 the rest of the way.

Four Griffons scored in double figures with senior Connie Clarke leading the way with 13 points and 11 rebounds as well as three blocks.

The Griffons sit at the number three spot in the MIAA women's standings. They will get some time to rest before their next contest against the No. 2 seed in the conference in Fort Hays State when the Tigers come to Looney Arena on Thursday.
