Greater Manchester all-stars roll, 11-1, to stay alive in PONY World Series

Aug. 14—The Greater Manchester all-stars shook off a big loss from less than 24 hours earlier, routing Managua, Nicaragua, 11-1 on Monday at the PONY (Protect Our Nation's Youth) World Series in Washington, Pennsylvania. The game was shortened to five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Right-hander Levi Locke pitched a complete-game five-hitter and helped himself by ending the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

Manchester, 2-1 in the double-elimination tournament, is scheduled to play again Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. against the loser of Monday night's contest between host Washington County and Monterrey, Mexico.

Nicaragua, which lost to Manchester 4-1 in Saturday's opener, was eliminated with a 1-2 record.

The locals got to work right away on Monday, scoring seven runs in the first inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. Chase Crowell's two-run single highlighted the inning.

Seth Lecuyer singled to lead off the third, then scored on a single by Owen Hazelbaker to make it 8-1.

In the fourth, Patrick Roy's sacrifice fly, knocking in Locke (single), built the lead to 9-1.

Chase Labore's solo homer leading off the fifth, a blast to left field, made it 10-1 before Locke ended it.

Chris Centorino had a pair of singles and an RBI for Greater Manchester, which finished with 12 hits. The locals are competing in the tournament for the second time.
