Grade the Steelers 3rd-round selection of TE Darnell Washington

Late in the predraft process, the Pittsburgh Steelers showed a surge of interest in Georgia tight end Darnell Washington. Despite tight end not being a top need, Pittsburgh brought Washington in for a Top 30 visit. Their interest was serious as the team drafted Washington in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft.

Washington gives the Steelers the best run-blocking tight end in the draft and a freakish athlete. Washington wasn’t highly productive at Georgia in part because they just ran the ball so much.

In Pittsburgh, Washington will once again be a run blocker and de facto sixth offensive tackle but he is also going to pair up with Pat Freiermuth to be an unstoppable duo for quarterback Kenny Pickett.
