Good Morning Football names Antoine Winfield Jr. best NFL DB

Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. may not have gotten his props during voting for the Pro Bowl Games, but he’s sure getting it elsewhere.

The crew at Good Morning Football — specifically Jason McCourty, a former NFL defensive back — ranked their top defensive backs of the NFL season on Tuesday. There were some notable names in the top three like Atlanta Falcons safety Jessee Bates and San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward, but one came out on top in Antoine Winfield Jr.

McCourty had a lot to say about Winfield Jr. when giving him the title, but he particularly zeroed in on how much of a defensive chess piece Winfield Jr. is. He talked at length about how he can fit any role all over the defense, something that has allowed him to net three picks, six sacks and six forced fumbles.

“This guy is not only playing the safety position [with] interceptions and all those things,” McCourty said. He blitzes, he tackles, he does absolutely everything on the football field.”

McCourty also shared disdain that Winfield Jr. was not selected to the Pro Bowl Games in 2023, and even mentioned that his father, Antoine Winfield Sr., DMed him and asked him to talk about his son on the show. Not only did McCourty oblige, but he made sure to give the Bucs safety the highest honor he could give him.
