Going the distance: Maclay cross country runner David Barton is Big Bend Preps Athlete of the Week
With nearly 15,000 votes cast, we have another new winner for Big Bend Preps Athlete of the Week.
For the first time this year we have a winner from cross country, taking 43% of the vote, Maclay freshman cross country runner David Barton is your Big Bend Preps Athlete of the Week for Oct. 30 - Nov. 5. Barton won for his first place run in the 1A District 2 race at Apalachee Regional Park, with the freshman running a personal best 16:17.80 to win.
One of Maclay's most consistent runners on the boy's side of the program, Barton has multiple top-three finishes and is one of the bright spots of the future of the program. With the state race right around the corner, Barton is likely to be a key figure in the 2A boy's race.
The Tallahassee Democrat/Big Bend Preps runs an Athlete of the Week contest every week, recognizing one standout high school athlete. Voting for AOTW opens on Monday and closes on Thursday.
Congratulations to Barton and the other finalists, Ryshard Miller (Madison County), Henry Lewis (Wakulla), Lindsay Smith (Chiles), Bella Ekk (Maclay), Ellie Riner (Maclay).
