NEW YORK — The New York Yankees beat up on the Boston Red Sox — and got beat up themselves.

All-Star second baseman Gleyber Torres became the latest Yankee injured on Sunday night — suffering what manager Aaron Boone called “a core issue.”

Torres went to a local hospital for tests, but the results were not yet known following the Yankees’ 7-4 victory over the Red Sox — which completed a four-game sweep.

Torres did travel with the team to Baltimore, a team official confirmed.

“We’ll just leave it at that for now, and we’ll find out more soon enough,” Boone said of Torres’ status.

During the series, the Yankees also lost first baseman/designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion (fractured right wrist) and centerfielder Aaron Hicks (right flexor strain) to the injured list.

The Yankees already have a staggering 16 players currently on the IL.

It’s unknown exactly how Torres suffered the injury, though ESPN cameras caught him running with discomfort to first base earlier in the game. He went 0-for-3 with a walk before being replaced by DJ LeMahieu in field in the eighth. LeMahieu himself has been dealing with a groin issue, but was able to avoid the IL.

Meanwhile, third baseman Gio Urshela, who was already dealing with an ankle issue, fouled a pair of balls off his body — and found himself in discomfort as a result. X-rays, however, were negative. Urshela told reporters after the game he’d travel with the team to Baltimore. The Yankees open up a three-game series with the Orioles at Camden Yards on Monday.

Urshela, who went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, was replaced by utility infielder Breyvic Valera in the field in the ninth. Valera played second, with LeMahieu shifting to third.

“He’s sore,” Boone said. “He just fouled a ball above his knee on the right side, and then the shin on the left side. It stiffened up on him pretty good but he’s icing up, and we’ll see how he is.”

Torres, 22, is hitting .286 with 23 homers and 62 RBIs. He’s proven invaluable with his ability to play multiple positions on the infield, and produce basically anywhere in the batting order.

Shortstop Didi Gregorius (finger) is also banged up, while the Yankees have had to turn to minor-leaguer Mike Ford at first alongside LeMahieu with Encarnacion and Luke Voit (sports hernia) out of action.

On Sunday night, injuries also forced the Yankees to start an outfield of Mike Tauchman, Brett Gardner and Cameron Maybin.

Despite all the injuries, the Yankees have managed to post a 72-39 record.
