Glencoe's Aiden Cornutt joins AHSAA record book to lead Gadsden area top performers

Here are Gadsden Times area top performers for the week ending on April 19 for high school baseball, including playoffs, soccer and softball along with top performers from the Etowah County schools track meet.

Baseball

Friday, April 19

Boaz's Tyler Pierce struck out 11 batters over seven innings allowing two runs on four hits in a 4-2 win over Leeds.

Sardis Carson Gillilan brought in three RBIs and scored twice on three hits in an 18-3 win over Moody in Game one.

Sardis's Russ Wiggs brought in two RBIs and scored three times.

Sardis's Kaden Walters brought in three RBIs on two hits. He added four RBIs on two hits in the second game of the series.

Sardis's Blaze Gerhart brought in two RBIs in the second game in an 11-0 win over Moody. In the first game he threw five innings allowing three runs on four hits with seven strikeouts.

Sardis's Luke Martin brought in two RBIs.

Thursday, April 18

Etowah's Slade St. Clair had two RBIs and scored a run in an 11-1 win over White Plains. He also had two RBIs and scored in the second game of the series.

Etowah's Bennett Reeves brought in three RBIs and scored three times.

Etowah's Trey Gaddis brought in two RBIs, struck out six batters and allowed four hits.

Etowah's Cash Hayes recorded four hits with two RBIs and scored twice in a 12-2 win over White Plains.

Westbrook Christian's Brodie Johnson brought in an RBI with a run scored in a 7-2 win vs. Elkmont. He added three runs and two RBIs in the second game, a 19-0 win.

Westbrook Christian's Noah Wright had two RBIs in game one and added two RBIs and two runs scored in the second.

Westbrook Christian's Cameron Carden brought in two RBIs in the first game with a run scored adding an RBI and run scored in game two.

Tuesday, April 16

Boaz's Tyler Pierce brought in two RBIs in a 7-3 win over Brewer.

Gaston's Jayce Stephens brought in two RBIs and scored twice in a 14-9 win over Ider.

Gaston's Brody Battles brought in two RBIs and scored once.

Gaston's Zeke Voytek scored twice with three hits and an RBI.

Monday, April 15

Gaston's Jayce Stephens brought in two RBIs in an 8-5 win over Gaylesville.

Saturday, April 13

Gaston's Easton Albert struck out 12 batters, allowing one hit, in six innings in a 2-1 win over Sand Rock. He added an RBI.

Gaston's Luke Hollingsworth hit a walkoff home run with three RBIs in an 8-5 win over Sand Rock.

Gaston's Connor Humphrey brought in two RBIs.

Boys soccer

Thursday, April 18

Gadsden City's Bladimir Cervantes scored twice with two assists against Oxford.

Glencoe's Aiden Cornutt scored four goals with an assist to join the top five goal scorers for their career in AHSAA history in a 10-0 win over Weaver.

Glencoe's Connor Montgomery had four goals.

Glencoe's Lance Cochran had four assists and one goal.

Tuesday, April 16

Gadsden City's Bladimir Cervantes recorded two assists in a 6-2 loss to Fort Payne.

Southside's Ouzeiph Toumiba scored the winning goal in a 3-2 win over Springville.

Southside's Camren Thompson added a goal.

Boys tennis

Boaz's Anderson Lambert beat Southside's Brock Adams 6-3, 6-2 to claim the Class 4A-5A, Section 6 No. 1 singles title.

Boaz's Isaac Butler won the Class 4A-5A, Section 6 No. 3 singles title over Southside's Brody Burnett.

Boys track and field

Gaston's Kodie Bogle placed first in the high jump (5-feet, 10-inches), javelin (174-feet, 10 inches) and fourth in the long jump. He finished second in the triple jump.

Sardis' Seth Cooper won the discus with a throw of 125-feet, 7-inches.

Sardis' Gage Garner won the shot put with a throw of 46-feet, 11-inches.

Southside's Evan Christopher took first place in the 800-meter, 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races at the Etowah County schools track meet.

Southside's Kody Kueny finished first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.31 seconds and first in the 200 meters with a time of 22.92.

Southside's Caleb Gallagher won the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdle races with a time of 17.52 in the 110 and 43.69 in the 300. He also won the long jump with a jump of 19-feet, 8.5-inches and the triple jump with a jump of 39-feet, 11.5 inches.

Girls soccer

Gadsden City's Raegan Brooks had two goals, an assist and six steals in wins vs. Oxford.

Southside's Madison Ashley had two goals and three assists.

Southside's Elizabeth Moore had three goals in a win over Douglas.

Girls tennis

Sardis' Jayden Johnson finished as runner-up in the 4A-5A, Section 6 No. 1 singles bracket.

Girls track and field

Gaston's Shelby Waters won the discus and shot put events at the Etowah County schools track meet.

Southside's Anna Kate Cashman won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.59 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.55 seconds.

Southside's Payton Ridley won the 800-meter (2:40) and 1,600-meter (6:04) races.

Southside's Kathryn Webb won the 300-meter hurdle race with a time of 57.52. She also won the high jump at 4-feet, 10-inches, the triple jump with a jump of 28-feet, 8.75 inches and the long jump with a jump of 15-feet, 5.75-inches.

Softball

Thursday, April 18

Piedmont's Savannah Smith notched 11 strikeouts in six innings in a 7-2 loss to Weaver.

Tuesday, April 16

Piedmont's Cacey Brothers brought in three RBIs and had a home run in a 13-1 win over Wellborn.

Piedmont's Cayla Brothers brought in two RBIs and had a home run, scoring twice.

Piedmont's Ava Pope hit a home run with two RBIs.

Piedmont's Savannah Smith had two RBIs and two runs scored. She added six strikeouts allowing four hits in five innings in the circle.

Monday, April 15

Hokes Bluff's Abby Payne hit a home run, with three RBIs and scored twice in a 10-2 win over Ohatchee.

Hokes Bluff's Lacey Grace Hall threw a complete game striking out seven. She added two doubles at the plate.

Saturday, April 13

Ashville's Jayda Burgess brought in three RBIs and scored three times in a 8-4 win over Munford.

Hokes Bluff's Ryan Lumpkin had two RBIs on two hits with a home run and a double in a 10-2 win vs. Glencoe.
