Girls roundup: Auburn, Lincoln, SHG, Carlinville, SHS, Havana win

JACKSONVILLE — Addison Wheatley scored 17 points and led Auburn to a nonconference girls basketball win over Jacksonville 52-46 on Thursday.

Wheatley scored 11 points in the opening half to put the Trojans (10-9) on top 24-19. Auburn outscored Jacksonville 22-13 in the third to take control, behind eight points from Chloe Crissey. Crissey finished with 14 points.

Zara Harper led Jacksonville (1-18) with a game-high 20 points. She had nine points in the second quarter and entered halftime with 15.

LINCOLN 64, PLEASANT PLAINS 39: At Roy S. Anderson Gym, Kloe Froebe chalked up 28 points and Class 3A top-ranked Lincoln surged to a 37-21 halftime lead.

Jenna Bowman poured in 11 points while Taryn Stoltzenburg and Piper Whiteman had six and five points, respectively. Lincoln improved to 18-0 overall ahead of Saturday’s Central State Eight Conference road game at Chatham Glenwood.

Bailey Leach led Plains with 10 points while Anna Weber and Madison Burke contributed nine and eight points, respectively.

SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 55, ROCHESTER 31: At Jim Belz Gymnasium, the Cyclones opened up a 28-11 halftime lead and rolled to a Central State Eight Conference win.

Izzy Hassebrock drained a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter to help give SHG (11-8 overall, 3-2 in the CS8) a 17-4 advantage. Callie Huston scored a team-high 13 points and Hassebrock and Reese Watson added eight apiece.

Taylor Offer made two 3s, went 5-for-6 from the line and had a game-high 17 points for Rochester (7-12, 3-2).

CARLINVILLE 49, NORTH MAC 47: At Virden, Izabella Tiburzi scored 16 points and led the Cavaliers to a thrilling South Central Conference victory.

Tiburzi was aided by Hannah Gibson’s 10 points while Jordyn Loveless and Ruthie Reels had six points apiece for the Cavaliers (14-4 overall, 3-1 SCC). Reels hit a 3-pointer and a free throw late in the fourth quarter to give Carlinville a four-point lead.

Abby Hendricks netted a game-high 23 points for the Panthers, despite the loss. Teammate Taylor Keirs added 12 points for North Mac (12-7, 2-2). Hendricks and Keirs had two 3-pointers each.

Hendricks drilled a 3 to get North Mac within a point in the closing seconds but a Carlinville free throw doubled the lead and set the final score.

SPRINGFIELD HIGH 51, NORMAL U-HIGH 26: At Willard Duey Gymnasium, junior Keziah Toran scored eight of her game-high 14 points in the second quarter as the Senators improved to 4-1 in the Central State Eight Conference on Thursday.

Zakiyah Lott, a senior guard, and sophomore Malorie Harris, combined for 17 points for SHS (9-7 overall). Lott had nine points and connected on the Senators’ lone 3-pointer. Jameara Townsend, a junior, added six points.

Kari Merriweather, a senior forward, led U-High with 11 points. The Pioneers fell to 2-17 (1-4 in the CS8).

GILLESPIE 63, LITCHFIELD 19: Freshman Amari Vickery was one of three Miners in double figures and led her team to a South Central Conference victory in Gillespie.

Vickery scored a game-high 14 points, nearly outscoring the Purple Panthers by herself.

Delaney Taylor, a junior, added 11 points — and was 7-for-8 at the free-throw-line — for the Miners (15-5 overall, 3-1 SCC) while fellow junior teammate Mia Brawner finished with 10 points.

Lauren Bertagnolli, a senior, threw in nine points for Gillespie.

Sophomore Chloe Law led Litchfield (3-16, 0-3) with eight points.

RIVERTON 41, SOUTH COUNTY 35: At Waverly, Riverton held the Vipers scoreless in the first quarter en route to a nonconference win.

The Hawks led 9-0 by the end of the first frame. Katelyn Truesdale paced Riverton with 17 points while Brandy Petitt had eight points. Jacee Alexander delivered 12 points for South County.

HAVANA 55, WILLIAMSVILLE 9: At Havana, the Ducks didn’t give up a point until the third period and limited the Bullets to just four field goals – all coming in the fourth.

Havana led 36-0 at halftime. Lauren Herbst and Kaydi Miller each chipped in 11 points for the Ducks. Josie Hughes had 10.

GREENVILLE 50, STAUNTON 44: At Staunton, Greenville’s Emma Veith scored 20 points and connected on six 3-point field goals to hand the Bulldogs their first South Central Conference loss.

Veith made three 3s in each half and added a pair of free throws in the fourth quarter. She was 6-for-12 from behind the arc.

Katie Campbell added 11 points and grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds for the Comets (11-5, 3-1 SCC) while teammate Haylee Clark finished with 10 points. Campbell also led Greenville with five assists.

Lilly Bandy scored 18 points to pace Staunton (15-2, 3-1). The Bulldogs have lost two of their last three games after a 14-0 start.

BROWNSTOWN 58, MOUNT OLIVE 21: Lauren Bailey scored 10 points for the Wildcats while Alyssa Aubuschon added eight in the loss.

WEDNESDAY’S RESULT

PETERSBURG PORTA/A-C CENTRAL 51, BEARDSTOWN 27: At Petersburg, Karlie Hoke went 6 of 8 from the field and produced a team-best 17 points for the Class 2A No. 8 Bluejays (17-1).

Hoke shot 3-for-3 from long range and also supplied five rebounds. Carson Arthalony (12) and Jayce Privia (nine) combined for 21 points.

TUESDAY’S RESULTS

PETERSBURG PORTA/A-C CENTRAL 58, HARDIN CALHOUN 29: Jayce Privia dialed up 19 points in the win while Cassie Cox (13) and Carson Arthalony (10) also reached double figures.

Calhoun was coming off its Carlinville Holiday Tournament title.

HILLSBORO 64, RIVERTON 38: At the Hawk Center, Tatum Christian hit two 3s and finished with a game-high 22 points for the Hiltoppers. Amya Greenwood engineered 13 points while Kearstynn Davis had 12.

Jordyn Durham led Riverton with 16 points.
