Girls Basketball Roundup: Harper Creek, Pennfield both get first wins of the season

BATTLE CREEK - Harper Creek and Pennfield both earned their first wins of the young season in girls basketball action on Tuesday night.

Pennfield went on the road and knocked off Eaton Rapids, 56-31, as the Panthers moved to 1-1. Natalie Hensel had 20 points, five assists and three blocks to lead Pennfield with Emilee Klacking adding 14 points and five rebounds.

After a tough opening week with two losses, Harper Creek won its first game as well with a home victory over Lake Odessa Lakewood, 37-32. Ella Chantrenne had 21 points to lead the Beavers.

Battle Creek Central 50, Portage Northern 30

Battle Creek Central (1-1) also earned its first win of the season, getting past Portage Northern on the road in a Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference matchup. A'Mya Hodges had 23 points to lead the Bearcats with Myliyah Mosely adding 16.

Stevensville-Lakeshore 40, Lakeview 24

Lakeview is still looking for its first win and fell to 0-3 after a Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference loss on the road to undefeated Stevensville-Lakeshore. Monroe Jewell had six points to lead the Spartans.

Gull Lake 37, St. Joseph 30

Gull Lake (2-1) trailed 10-5 after the first quarter, but rallied to take the lead by halftime at 18-16. The Blue Devils were led by Ali Bates with 12 points.

Coldwater 51, Olivet 12

Coldwater goes to 3-0 with the non-conference win over Olivet (1-2). Elli Foley and Kenzie Schied each had 10 points as Coldwater had a balanced scoring effort in the one-sided win.

Mendon 42, Calhoun Christian 17

Mendon goes to 3-0 with the non-conference win over Calhoun Chrisitian. Jayna Schwartz had nine points and Sarah Belote added eight for Calhoun Christian (1-2).

Battle Creek Academy 44, Will Carleton 13

Sofia Keller had 24 points to lead Battle Creek Academy, which goes to 3-0. Olivia Keller added 11 points.

Pittsford 45, Athens 29

Athens falls to 0-2 with Maria Bronsink getting nine points and three rebounds for the Indians and Mallory Kincaid chipping in seven points, three steals and three assists.

Climax-Scotts 41, Decatur 12

Climax-Scotts improves to 3-0 with this non-conference win over Decatur on Monday. Holly Talbert had 18 points for the Panthers.
