Girls basketball roundup: Balanced attack helps Portland to road victory

PORTLAND 46, GRAND RAPIDS COVENANT CHRISTIAN 40

GRAND RAPIDS — Alexa Weber finished with a team-high 15 points to push the Raiders to a nonleague road win over Grand Rapids Covenant Christian (11-4). Malia Thelen picked up 14 points and Lilly Thelen added 12 points for Portland (13-1).

MASON 58, CHARLOTTE 36

MASON — Ashlynn Putman notched a game-high 21 points and hauled in eight rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to a nonleague home win over Charlotte. Josie Lator tacked on 15 points for Mason (8-7). Peyton Howarth finished with a team-high 15 points for the Orioles (3-13).

HOLT 67, GRAND LEDGE 38

HOLT — Claire Tobias had four 3s and had a team-high 16 points and also added eight assists and seven rebounds for the Rams in their CAAC Blue win. Rhema Dozier added 12 points and five assists, while Presley Pazitka had 11 points and four assists and Maya Barker added 11 points and eight rebounds for Holt (10-5, 6-1). Alayna Armstrong had 14 points and Lexi Raska finished with 11 points for Grand Ledge (4-12, 3-5).

DeWITT 52, OKEMOS 35

DeWITT — Tara Kurncz secured a game-high 22 points to help the Division 1 No. 8-ranked Panthers stay undefeated in the CAAC Blue with a victory over Okemos. Sophia Beland chipped in eight points for DeWitt (15-2, 8-0). Kendall Idomir tallied a team-high 17 points for the Wolves (7-8, 2-6). JV score: DeWitt d. Okemos

OVID-ELSIE 64, STOCKBRIDGE 50

STOCKBRIDGE — The Marauders had a 23-11 advantage in the first quarter while picking up a nonleague road win over Stockbridge (8-6). Evalyn Cole had 19 points and seven assists, Ava Bates notched 19 points and Lillian Bates added 12 points for the Marauders (12-2).

OWOSSO 69, ORTONVILLE BRANDON 29

OWOSSO — Peyton Spicer secured a double-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four assists to help guide the Trojans to a Flint Metro League victory over Ortonville Brandon (3-13, 1-7). Skotti Ball-Duley scored 16 points, Danica Dwyer tallied 10 points, eight rebounds and eight assists and Lexi Hemker added eight points, seven assists and five rebounds for Owosso (8-7, 6-3).

IONIA 49, EASTERN 30

Aubree White’s double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds pushed the Bulldogs to a nonleague road win over Eastern. Lexie Daugherty tallied nine points and three rebounds, Emma White scored eight points and Avery Hoppough tacked on seven points for Ionia (5-10). Nevaeh Reed notched a team-high 11 points, five rebounds and five steals and Kristy Palacios added eight points and grabbed six rebounds for the Quakers (3-12).

LESLIE 50, JONESVILLE 36

LESLIE — Rylie Burley scored a team-high 18 points for the Blackhawks in their nonleague home win over Jonesville (8-7). Lily Smieska notched nine points, Reece DeRose and Alayna Brown each had eight points and Ella Locke tacked on six points for Leslie (12-3).

FOWLERVILLE 45, EATON RAPIDS 38

FOWLERVILLE — Rylee Winkelman notched a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and three steals for the Greyhounds in a nonleague loss to Fowlerville (7-8). Avah Vozar scored nine points and snagged five steals and Elle Lorente added eight points for Eaton Rapids (2-13).

MORRICE 60, FLINT ELITE 24

MORRICE — Aubrey Rogers had 26 points, nine rebounds, seven steals, five assists and five blocks for the Orioles (10-4, 5-0) in a GAC Blue win. Payton Goodline had 18 points and Alexa Rose finished with five points and 12 rebounds for Morrice.

ITHACA — Ivy Davenport had 17 points while helping the Yellowjackets (5-9) push their win streak to three with a nonleague win. Libby Maurer had nine points for Ithaca.

CORUNNA — Emily Reichert finished with a team-high seven points for the Cavaliers (2-13, 0-8) in a Flint Metro League loss to Goodrich (16-0, 9-0).
