Girls basketball: Batesville improves to 3-1 with win over ND

Nov. 13—BATESVILLE — The Lady Bulldogs of Batesville posted the first win of the season on their home court Saturday, defeating North Decatur 50-35. Batesville improves to 3-1 and the Lady Chargers drop to 1-2.

North jumped out to a 15-12 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Chargers' offense went cold, scoring only seven points over the next two quarters. Batesville scored 28 points over those same middle quarters to lead 40-22 after three quarters. North outscored Batesville 13-10 in the fourth quarter, but the damage in the middle quarters was too much to overcome.

Alyson Peters led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points. Sophie Gesell and Lydia Haskamp both had eight points. Marlee Obermeyer finished with six points. Sydney Campbell and Kaylin Kathmann both had four points. Claire Saner scored two points.

For North, Kelsey Haley led the way with 12 points. Ella Kunz added 11 points. Jo Whitaker scored five points. Madi Allen had four points, five assists and four rebounds. Clare Kinker scored two points. Sydney Rohls hit a free throw and pulled down four rebounds.

In the junior varsity game, Batesville scored 19 points in the third quarter to pull away to the 31-20 win.

For North, Jewel Verseman led with nine points. Brooke Mauer scored eight points. Jo Whitaker had two points and Ally Whitaker had one point.

Greensburg

FRANKLIN — The Lady Pirates suffered their first loss of the young season, falling at Franklin 58-53. Greensburg is now 2-1. Franklin moves to 3-1.

Franklin led 18-14 after the first eight minutes and 34-24 at the half. The Lady Pirates won the second half 29-24, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome.

Franklin held the advantage in transition points (10-2) and points off turnovers (13-2). Greensburg held the advantage on the glass, out-rebounding Franklin 33-26 (10-7 on offensive rebounds). Franklin forced 14 turnovers and Greensburg forced eight.

Leah West led the Lady Pirates in scoring with 26 points and in rebounding with eight.

Mary Harmon and Aly Powers both scored seven points and had seven rebounds. Mylie Wilkison scored six points and had four rebounds. Emma McQueen had one point, two rebounds and two assists. Powers and Claire Larrison both had three assists.

Erica Buening led Franklin in scoring with 19 points. Emma Sappenfield added 15 points and Brooklyn York had 10 points.

South Decatur

The Lady Cougars picked up two more wins to stay undefeated on the season at 4-0.

South defeated visiting Rising Sun 48-35. The Lady Cougars scored in double figures in each quarter en route to the win. After leading by two at the end of the first quarter, South went on a 15-6 run in the second to lead 26-15 at the half.

The Lady Shiners bounced back in the third quarter to cut the deficit by three points, but a 10-5 four quarter for South gave the Lady Cougars the win. Makayla Somers led South in scoring with 20 points. She also pulled down 12 rebounds to complete the double-double.

Molly Eden added eight points and four rebounds. Paige McQueen had seven points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Makayla Puckett, Taylor Somers and Kiley Best all scored four points. Brayley Sundal added one point. Puckett and Best both dished out three assists.

Jenna Peelman led Rising Sun with 16 points. Alyssa Simpson scored 13 points.

On the road at Morristown, the Lady Cougars posted a 55-41 victory.

Makayla Somers led the team in scoring with 19 points. Best was also in double figures with 18 points. McQueen chipped in with seven points. Eden and Taylor Somers both scored four points. Sundal scored two points and Puckett had one point.

Makayla Somers and McQueen both had eight rebounds. Eden pulled down seven boards. Sundal had a team-high six assists and team-high five steals.

Nevaeh Cox led Morristown with 13 points. Charli Marcum had 12 points.

Rushville

RUSHVILLE — The Lady Lions picked up an EIAC win Saturday, knocking off the Lady Knights of South Dearborn 45-27.

Leading the charge on her birthday was senior Kiley Parsley with 15 points, six rebounds and one steal.

Junior Leonie Boyer added 10 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Sophomore Carly Senour tallied nine points, seven rebounds, one steal, two blocks and two assists. Senior Kylee Herbert finished with nine points, two steals and four assists.

Senior Ericka Kuhn had two points, two rebounds, one steal, two assists and one block. Mallory Angle and Audrey Angle both grabbed one rebound. Olivia Smith had five rebounds, one steal and one assist.

The Lady Lions have a busy weekend coming up with Mt. Vernon Friday and Tri Saturday.
