Girl injured in Britt Reid car crash is 'getting a little better,' says family

The 5-year-old girl injured in a car crash that involved former Kansas City Chiefs outside linebackers coach Britt Reid is "getting a little better each day," according to a GoFundMe update.

Ariel Young, who is still in the hospital, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following the Feb. 4 crash. Young woke up from a coma Feb. 15, and "still has a long road to recovery," according to a new post on a GoFundMe set up for Young and her family.

"Ariel remains in the hospital, she is getting a little better each day but she still has a long road to recovery. Britt Reid is out everyday living his normal life while she cannot, please don’t let her story be forgotten. Court will take a long time and we don’t know what will be the outcome of it all. So please keep sharing her story and praying for her and the family. Thank you."

It was the first update posted to Young's GoFundMe page in 11 days.

The family intends to press charges against Reid, who reportedly told police he had two to three drinks before he got in his car.

Reid was reportedly driving a pickup truck that struck two vehicles parked on the side of an interstate near the Chiefs' practice facility Feb. 4. Young was the only person to suffer life-threatening injuries in the crash. Reid's truck was allegedly driving at "highway speed" at the time of the crash, according to a police report acquired by ABC News.

Chiefs let Britt Reid's contract expire

Following the crash, Reid did not travel with the team to Super Bowl LIV. The Chiefs lost the contest 31-9 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A few days after the Super Bowl, it was revealed the Chiefs put Reid on leave, and quietly allowed his contract to expire.

Reid previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in 2007. He was also involved in a road rage incident that year, in which he pointed a gun at another driver. Reid was also in possession of a controlled substance during the event.
