Giants vs. Cowboys: 3 reasons for optimism in Week 3

The New York Giants (2-0) are once again at home for a Week 3 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys (1-1) this Monday night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Here are three reasons for optimism entering Week 3, where the Giants hope to start 3-0 for the first time since 2009.

Returning edge rushers

The Giants may be without defensive lineman Leonard Williams on Monday night, but they will see the return of edge rushers Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari.

The presence of Thibodeaux and Ojulari adds an entirely new dimension for defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, who regularly changes the scheme.

The edge rush duo should be able to generate organic pressure, allowing Martindale to turn up the dial with his aggressive blitz approach.

"White Out"

In Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers, Big Blue fans answered the call from Martindale and factored into the outcome of the game with their voice.

Against the Cowboys, the Giants are calling for a “White Out” similar to what’s seen at Happy Valley. It’s something Saquon Barkley calls “breathtaking.”

How many Giants fans truly go all-white remains to be seen, but you had better believe whether white or blue, they’re going to be loud for four full quarters on Monday night. The times are changing in East Rutherford.

The Giants have injury issues of their own but there’s no denying that going up against Cooper Rush as opposed to Dak Prescott has its advantages.

Further, linebacker Micah Parsons has been sick and out of practice all week, while tight end Dalton Schultz is expected to miss the game due to a knee injury.

Left guard Connor McGovern (ankle) and safety Jayron Kearse (knee) are also questionable for the game.
