Giants' Posey busts into MVP consideration

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey is bustin' homers day after day.

The latest came quickly. Posey's first-inning homer Tuesday helped beat the Cardinals 4-2. It was his 18th homer of the season and fifth in six games.

The only homerless game in that span came on a day he played first base. The others came when he was the catcher.

Since the All-Star break, Posey is hitting .448 with eight homers and 30 RBI. His average and RBI since the break top the majors. He has hit safely in 11 straight games.

Somebody suggested to Posey he could be in the MVP hunt, though the Pirates' Andrew McCutchen has been a popular choice to date.

"That's humbling to even be mentioned in something like that," Posey said. "It's pretty cool, I guess."

Posey doesn't like talking about himself, but he'll have to so long as he keeps hitting and keeps himself in the MVP conversation.
