The Giants placed designated hitter Joc Pederson on the 10-day IL with right wrist inflammation, the team announced Saturday morning.

The news was announced just before the start of the Giants' 7-6 extra innings loss to the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

Pederson, who turns 31 next week, has had a solid start to the 2023 season, slashing .242/.350/.545 with two home runs through his first 40 plate appearances.

Although it’s unclear how or when exactly Pederson might have hurt his wrist, Giants manager Gabe Kapler said he hopes it will be a short-term issue.

San Francisco, in a corresponding move, recalled Matt Beaty from Triple-A Sacramento to take Pederson's place on the active roster. The Giants acquired Beaty in a trade with the Kansas City Royals last month.

The 29-year-old is slashing .357/.471/.500 in 17 plate appearances with Triple-A Sacramento. He originally was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015 and was a key piece for the Dodgers in 2019, hitting .265/.317/.458 with 19 doubles and nine home runs in 99 games.
