Giants’ Darius Slayton displaying impressive consistency during offseason program
New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton is starting off his fourth NFL season hot as he has impressed during voluntary OTAs.
Slayton, a former fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft, has dramatically outperformed the position of his selection so far in his career. The Auburn Tigers alum has posted 1,830 yards and 13 touchdowns through three seasons while also featuring back-to-back 700-yard seasons in 2019 and 2020.
Unfortunately, Slayton had a down year in 2021 (only 339 yards and two touchdowns) as he took a backseat in the offense with new additions Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney taking away from his target share.
However, Slayton is attempting to right the ship and improve his stock this offseason as he continues to make big play after big play in practice.
“He’s been dependable,” Daboll said of Slayton earlier in OTAs. “He’s known what to do. He doesn’t talk a whole lot. Pretty quiet guy but a pro. I’ve got a lot of respect for him, how he handles his business both on and off the field. He’s done a good job.”
On Tuesday, Slayton had another big highlight moment, using his balance and vision to come down with an unlikely catch.
Wide receiver Darius Slayton had the highlight of the day, corralling a pass that was tipped near the sideline. Slayton showed good concentration staying with the redirected pass and managed to secure it in stride.
While Slayton’s future in East Rutherford is uncertain, one thing is for sure: he will provide experienced receiving help to whatever quarterback needs it.
