Germany relishing a classic against old foes England

"The rivalry is similar in Germany as well. Any Germany-England or England-Germany football fixture is a classic. There's obviously a lot of history in football, in men's football and in women's. So to be honest, the stats are not that important, it's more about the development of the team and we really see it as an honour and a gift to be playing here, kind of at the end of the year. It's important, especially given that in a year-and-a-half we'll be here again for an important competition."

STORY: Germany women's team coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is relishing another "classic" against England as her side prepares to meet the Lionesses at Wembley on Saturday (November 9) in front of a record crowd.

The sold-out crowd in the 90,000-seat stadium is expected to beat the previous record crowd for a women's international in Britain of 80,203 who watched the 2012 London Olympic final between the United States and Japan.

The attendance is also set to exceed the record for an England women's home fixture of 45,619, set in the game against the same opponents at the same stadium in 2014.

The attendance record for any women's soccer match is 90,185 for the 1999 World Cup final in Pasadena, California in which the U.S. beat China on penalties.
