Georgia gets revenge vs. Alabama, wins 1st national title since 1980

The Georgia Bulldogs are the kings of college football for the first time in more than four decades.

After losing their first game of the season to Alabama in the SEC title game, the Bulldogs got their vengeance Monday night in the bigger championship battle, beating the Crimson Tide 33-18 to take home their first national crown since 1980.

After trading field goals in the first half, both teams finally started finding the end zone as the game came down to the wire. Stetson Bennett’s touchdown pass to Brock Bowers extended the Bulldogs’ lead to eight points in the final minutes, and Kelee Ringo’s pick-six on Alabama’s ensuring possession put the exclamation point on a victory for the history books in Athens.

Both of these teams are loaded with top talent for the 2022 NFL draft, and they have plenty more returning next season as they work toward another rematch on the game’s biggest stage.
