Georges Niang discusses handling Sixers trade rumors as deadline nears

CAMDEN, N.J.–As the deadline nears in the NBA, it can be tough for players to handle everything that comes with it as the rumors go flying and any player can hear his name involved with reports.

The Philadelphia 76ers are no different as they will undoubtedly be involved in trade talks up until the 3 p.m. EST deadline on Feb. 9. The Sixers will be looking to make a move in order to help them reach their ultimate goal of winning a championship in the 2022-23 season.

Anybody can be moved and, for somebody like Georges Niang, he’s focusing on himself and looking forward to the next game.

“I try not to think about it because I feel like when you joke and mess around with it, it always comes back to bite you in the (expletive),” said Niang. “So I always just try to remember those questions. It’s a business. It happens. I enjoy where I’m at in Philadelphia. I hope everybody knows that, but it is a business so I just tried to just focus on something else. The next game, the next scouting report.”

Niang was then reminded of when the trade deadline actually is and he’s not even focused on that date.

“I don’t look at that day or try to think about it,” he stated. “Then it’s just taking my energy somewhere else and I am not good with too many distractions.”

With that being said, the mood around the Sixers at this deadline compared to the 2022 deadline is much lighter. Of course, Philadelphia had to make a move at that deadline when considering the Ben Simmons situation, but the Sixers will continue to move forward with this deadline with a lot less weight on their shoulders.

“I would say definitely, if I’m being honest with you,” Niang added. “Obviously, we had to do something last year, but this year, I feel like you know we’re in a good position. They don’t pay me enough to make those roster moves. So I’m gonna keep it at that.”
