GC Boys Soccer: Red Oak tops Tigers 1-0

Feb. 28—Corsicana's Tigers fell to Red Oak Tuesday at Community National Bank & Trust Stadium 1-0 and now must rally down the stretch to make the playoffs.

The Tigers dropped from fourth to fifth place in the district standings while Red Oak moved into fourth with the victory Tuesday.

Still, the Tigers are in good shape to make the postseason, thanks to a solid performance against third-place Forney on Friday.

Andre Ibanez scored twice, William Hernandez scored, Santiago Centeno scored and handed out an assist and Omar Delacruz, Chapo Arrendondo and Hendo Bautista all had assists to lift the Tigers to a 4-2 win over Forney.

That key victory gave the Tigers their fourth win in district. They are now 4-5 and trail Red Oak (4-3-3). But the Tigers have three games left and have a chance to leap-frog Red Oak.

The Tigers play second-place Terrell at home Friday and end the regular season next week with games against sixth-place Crandall on the road Tuesday and a season finale against last-place Lancaster on March 5 at Lancaster.

The Tigers defeated Crandall 6-1 earlier and hammered Lancaster 10-0 earlier. If they win those two games they will end the district season with at least six wins, even if they lose to second-place Terrell.

But the Tigers have a good chance to sweep all three because even though they lost to Terrell on the road 3-0, the Tigers play much better at home. Their loss to Red Oak Tuesday is their only district loss at home this season.

Red Oak (4-3-3) faces a tougher road with a home game against Ennis Tuesday and a finale at Crandall on March 8. Ennis defeated Red Oak 3-0 and Crandall and Red Oak played to a 3-3 tie.
