Game Recap: Cowboys molly whop Eagles 41-21 to take early control of NFC East

Welp, that escalated quickly. The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles stepped onto the field Monday night dead even in the early standings. Both teams had split their opening games of the season and were looking to bounce back from disappointing 2020 campaigns that saw both end up with top-10 picks in April’s draft.

The similarities ended almost immediately after the opening snap as the Cowboys ran around, over and through the Eagles defense while they had the ball and then took the ball back whenever they didn’t. Quarterback Dak Prescott made his triumphant return to AT&T Stadium for the first time since his horrific injury in Week 5 last season, and then methodically went about exorcising any demons that may have existed. Dallas owned every aspect of the contest, winning easily 41-21.

Prescott had another scintillating performance, shaking off an early strip-sack score to dominate in a calm, cool, collected way. Completing over 80% of his passes for the second consecutive game, Prescott finished 21 of 26 passing for 238 yards and three scores. He wasn’t the performance of the day, though, as the Cowboys’ defense followed up an impressive Week 2 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on the road with a statement game on primetime television.

The team had two interceptions for the third-straight game, another in the shadow of the end zone and their first Pick-6 of the season courtesy of budding star Trevon Diggs. They harassed Jalen Hurts relentlessly notching two sacks and a myriad of desperation holding penalties

Leading Passer: Prescott – 21 for 26, 238 yards, 3 TDs, 143.3 Rating
Leading Rusher: Ezekiel Elliott – 17 rushes, 95 yards, 2 TDs
Leading Receiver: Dalton Schultz – 6 receptions, 80 yards, 2 TDs
Leading Defender: Osa Odighizuwa – 1.5 sacks, 4 tackles

The Cowboys will have a short week as they will host the Carolina Panthers (3-0) on Sunday as Sam Darnold comes to town on 10-days rest.
