Gadsden area football rankings: How did last week's clashes shake up the standings

Here are the all-class power rankings ahead week two of the high school football season in the Gadsden area. All 27 teams, regardless of class, in the Gadsden Times coverage zone are eligible to be ranked.

1. Cherokee County (3-0)

The Warriors keep on rolling, now into a huge matchup with Oneonta that could determine the region. Last Week: No. 1, 35-0 win over Good Hope; This week: Home vs. Oneonta

2. Gadsden City (2-1)

The Titans get back on track and will face an explosive Fort Payne offense. Last Week: No. 2, 49-14 win over Buckhorn; This week: Home vs. Fort Payne

3. Coosa Christian (2-1)

Coosa Christian started region play with a big-time win and has been on a roll since an opening-season loss. Last Week: No. 2, 49-0 win over Gaylesville; This week: Home vs. Decatur Heritage Christian

4. Geraldine (3-0)

The Bulldogs started region play with a big win over Plainview, showing off the potent rushing attacking behind Carlos Mann and Jaxon Colvin. Last week: 5, 35-3 win over Plainview; This week: Home vs. Hokes Bluff

5. Jacksonville (2-1)

The loss to Handley is a setback and shows that the defense has a bunch of questions to answer if this team is going to reach its potential. Last Week: No. 4, 32-24 loss to Handley; This week: Home vs. Anniston

6. Fyffe (1-1)

Fyffe got back on track this week with a dominant performance over a region foe, proving that it was too early to panic after a week one loss. Last Week: No. 6, 52-0 win over North Sand Mountain; This week: road vs. North Sand Mountain

7. Southside (2-1)

The Panthers cruised to a region-opening week win, showing they should be a force in the region. Last Week: No. 7, 29-8 win over Lincoln; This week: Home vs. Springville

8. Fort Payne (2-1)

The Fort Payne offense has been lights out this season, averaging more than 50 points a game but a big test looms this week. Last week: 10, 61-13 Mae Jemison; This week: Road vs. Fort Payne

9. Sardis (2-0)

Sardis starts region play and will try to show the fast start was no fluke. Last week: 9, bye; This week: road vs. Arab

10. Collinsville (2-0)

This final spot came down to Pisgah and Collinsville. Both have opened the season with dominant wins, the good news is that they will settle this on the field this week. Last week: NR, Won 39-6 over Section; This week: Home vs. Pisgah

Dropped from rankings: Piedmont
