Friday's Top Prep Performers: Ramirez throws shutout as Santa Paula reaches 8-0 in league

Highlights from Friday in high school sports:

BASEBALL

  • Santiago Ramirez pitched a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts, Tyler Antwine was 2 for 3 with a double, and Sammy Gomez went 2 for 3 with an RBI as Santa Paula (10-5) improved to 8-0 in the Citrus Coast League with a 4-0 victory over Hueneme (10-6-1, 4-2).

SOFTBALL

  • Rio Mesa defeated Calexico 11-3 and Huntington Beach 7-1 to go 3-1 and finish as co-champions in the Bronze Bracket at the Michelle Carew Classic. In the first game, Analia Lopez struck out nine in four innings and went 2 for 4 with an RBI at the plate, Sarah Coccillos was 3 for 5 with a homer and three RBIs, Mariah Reyes went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Keira Berry was 1 for 4 with two RBIs, Alyssa Diaz was 1 for 3 with an RBI, and Jaslene Rios and Hailey Olivera each went 1 for 4 with an RBI. In the second game, Sophia Roman had a homer and two RBIs, Rios went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, and Lopez allowed one run while striking out 13 in six innings for the Spartans (15-3).

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

  • Channel Islands defeated Nordhoff 65-62 in a Citrus Coast League meet. For Channel Islands, Uriel Texis won the 800 (2:03.07). Diego Salazar won the 1,600 (4:53.33). Edgardo Santiago Gayton won the 3,200 (10:20.53). Luis Hernandez won the 300 hurdles (47.05). Louis Lemus won the triple jump (35-10.50). Andrew Botello won the shot put (40-02). For Nordhoff, Corbyn Mitrany won the 100 (11.33) and 200 (23.17). Adrian Vega won the 400 (53.54). Thomas Eckert won the 110 hurdles (18.74). Miko Baertschi won the high jump (5-06). Kaden Bruchey won the long jump (17-11.25). Daniel Herrejon won the discus (114-02).

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

  • Nordhoff defeated Channel Islands 70-55 in a Citrus Coast League meet. For Nordhoff, Maguire Casey won the 200 (28.25) and the 400 (1:05.41). Crystal Ramirez won the 800 (2:42.71) and 1,600 (6:04.80). Maddison Duenas won the 3,200 (13:35.57). Leslie Ruiz won the long jump (14-06.50). McKenna Turner won the triple jump (30-02.50). Kimberly Hernandez won the shot put (25-04) and discus (85-03). For Channel Islands, LeShelle Lee won the 100 (13.78). :Layla Harvey won the 100 hurdles (19.31). Isabella Cerda won the high jump (4-0).
